He pursued mechanical engineering in college until a family health issue prompted him to pause his studies. Taking a break from school, he began a plumbing apprenticeship, participating in commercial construction projects including the Camp Allen MUH building in Norfolk, the Sentara Princess Ann hospital in Virginia Beach, and the Langley Air Force Base hospital renovation in Hampton. After completing his apprenticeship and passing the state board for contractors journeyman plumber exam, he became a licensed plumber, working as a plumbing contractor at Little Creek Amphibious Base in Norfolk. Having held the journeyman plumber card for one year, he sat for the state board for contractors exam to become a master plumber and obtained his class C contractor license, which marked the beginning of David Sulouff Plumbing!
