In 1920, Vearl Manwill set out with his horse and wagon, equipped with tools, carbide lights, and piping to start a mission that would lead him to numerous farmhouses to set up “modern” carbide lanterns and plumbing. His work was integral to the first indoor lighting systems ever established. After several years, Vearl chose to settle in Salt Lake City and later opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he established his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His shop was a complete hardware store that sold washers, dryers, and even jewelry. Vearl purchased one of the first television sets in Salt Lake City. Even though the TV set featured only black and white visuals, it captured the attention of the town and attracted many visitors. In time, Vearl no longer needed to sell jewelry and appliances to dedicate himself to what he did best—plumbing and heating goods. The business is now managed by his grandson.

The business is now under the leadership of Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim grew up immersed in the family business engaging in tasks from trench digging to plumbing new homes, executing repairs, and selling HVAC products.
