In 1920, Vearl Manwill loaded his horse and wagon with tools, carbide lights, and pipes to embark on a journey that would lead him to numerous farmhouses to set up “modern” carbide lanterns and plumbing. His installations were part of the first indoor lighting systems ever created. After several years, Vearl chose to settle in Salt Lake City and subsequently opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he opened his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His shop was a complete hardware store with products ranging from washers and dryers to jewelry. Vearl purchased one of the first television sets in Salt Lake City. Even though the TV set featured only black and white visuals, it became the talk of the town and attracted many visitors. In time, Vearl no longer needed to sell jewelry and appliances to focus on his expertise—plumbing and heating products. The operation is currently overseen by his grandson.

The business is now under the leadership of Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim was raised in the family business doing everything from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, performing repairs, and selling HVAC equipment. Jim now employs over 40 skilled service professionals focused on delivering exceptional customer service, reliable products, and quality craftsmanship.
