In 1920, Vearl Manwill prepared his horse and wagon, filled with tools, carbide lights, and a selection of pipes to begin a journey that took him to various farmhouses to install “modern” carbide lanterns and piping. His installations were part of the first indoor lighting systems ever created. After some time, Vearl decided to make Salt Lake City his home and subsequently opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, Vearl launched his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His shop was a complete hardware store with products ranging from washers and dryers to jewelry. Vearl purchased one of the first television sets in Salt Lake City. While the TV only showed black and white pictures, it became a sensation in the community and brought in large numbers of people. Eventually, Vearl moved away from selling jewelry and other appliances to dedicate himself to what he did best—plumbing and heating goods. Today, the company is run by his grandson.

Today, Jim Manwill, the third generation, runs the business. Jim grew up immersed in the family business engaging in tasks from trench digging to plumbing new homes, executing repairs, and selling HVAC products. Currently, Jim leads a team of over 40 trained service experts focused on delivering exceptional customer service, reliable products, and quality craftsmanship.
