In 1920, Vearl Manwill set out with his horse and wagon, equipped with tools, carbide lights, and piping to embark on a journey that took him to various farmhouses to implement “modern” carbide lighting and piping. His work was integral to the first indoor lighting systems ever established. After some time, Vearl decided to make Salt Lake City his home and later opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he established his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His establishment was a comprehensive hardware store offering washers, dryers, and even jewelry. Vearl purchased one of the first television sets in Salt Lake City. Even though the TV set featured only black and white visuals, it became a sensation in the community and brought in large numbers of people. Eventually, Vearl moved away from selling jewelry and other appliances to dedicate himself to what he did best—plumbing and heating goods. The operation is currently overseen by his grandson.

The business is now under the leadership of Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim grew up immersed in the family business engaging in tasks from trench digging to plumbing new homes, executing repairs, and selling HVAC products.
