In 1920, Vearl Manwill set out with his horse and wagon, equipped with tools, carbide lights, and piping to begin a journey that took him to various farmhouses to set up “modern” carbide lanterns and plumbing. His installations were part of the first indoor lighting systems ever created. After several years, Vearl chose to settle in Salt Lake City and subsequently opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he opened his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His shop was a complete hardware store offering washers, dryers, and even jewelry. He acquired one of the first TVs in Salt Lake City. Even though the TV set featured only black and white visuals, it became the talk of the town and brought in large numbers of people. Eventually, Vearl moved away from selling jewelry and other appliances to dedicate himself to what he did best—plumbing and heating goods. The operation is currently overseen by his grandson.

Currently, the business is led by Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim was raised in the family business doing everything from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, performing repairs, and selling HVAC equipment. Jim now manages a workforce of more than 40 qualified service technicians focused on delivering exceptional customer service, reliable products, and quality craftsmanship. Jim was honored with the ""Circle of Excellence"" award. Most recent honors include ""Best of State"" from 2011 to 2015 as well as the Angie's List Super Service Award for 2008-2015.
