In 1920, Vearl Manwill loaded his horse and wagon with tools, carbide lights, and pipes to start a mission that brought him to many farmhouses to implement “modern” carbide lighting and piping. These installations contributed to the first indoor lighting systems in history. Eventually, Vearl opted to establish himself in Salt Lake City and later opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he opened his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His establishment was a comprehensive hardware store with products ranging from washers and dryers to jewelry. He acquired one of the first TVs in Salt Lake City. While the TV only showed black and white pictures, it captured the attention of the town and drew crowds of people. Over time, Vearl shifted his focus away from selling jewelry and appliances to concentrate on what he excelled at—plumbing and heating supplies. The business is now managed by his grandson.

The business is now under the leadership of Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim spent his childhood in the family business handling tasks from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, conducting repairs, and selling HVAC systems. Currently, Jim leads a team of over 40 trained service experts committed to ensuring the best customer service, trustworthy products, and superior craftsmanship.
