In 1920, Vearl Manwill set out with his horse and wagon, equipped with tools, carbide lights, and piping to start a mission that took him to various farmhouses to set up “modern” carbide lanterns and plumbing. His installations were part of the first indoor lighting systems ever created. After several years, Vearl chose to settle in Salt Lake City and later opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he established his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. The shop was a full-service hardware store that sold washers, dryers, and even jewelry. He acquired one of the first TVs in Salt Lake City. While the TV only showed black and white pictures, it became a sensation in the community and attracted many visitors. Eventually, Vearl moved away from selling jewelry and other appliances to dedicate himself to what he did best—plumbing and heating goods. Today, the company is run by his grandson.

The business is now under the leadership of Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim spent his childhood in the family business doing everything from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, performing repairs, and selling HVAC equipment. Jim now employs over 40 skilled service professionals focused on delivering exceptional customer service, reliable products, and quality craftsmanship.
