In 1920, Vearl Manwill loaded his horse and wagon with tools, carbide lights, and pipes to start a mission that took him to various farmhouses to set up “modern” carbide lanterns and plumbing. His installations were part of the first indoor lighting systems ever created. After several years, Vearl chose to settle in Salt Lake City and later opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he established his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. The shop was a full-service hardware store with products ranging from washers and dryers to jewelry. Vearl purchased one of the first television sets in Salt Lake City. While the TV only showed black and white pictures, it captured the attention of the town and drew crowds of people. Over time, Vearl shifted his focus away from selling jewelry and appliances to dedicate himself to what he did best—plumbing and heating goods. The business is now managed by his grandson.

The business is now under the leadership of Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim spent his childhood in the family business handling tasks from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, conducting repairs, and selling HVAC systems. Currently, Jim leads a team of over 40 trained service experts committed to ensuring the best customer service, trustworthy products, and superior craftsmanship. Jim was honored with the ""Circle of Excellence"" award. Recent accolades include ""Best of State"" for 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 along with the Angie's List Super Service Award for 2008 through 2015.
