In 1920, Vearl Manwill set out with his horse and wagon, equipped with tools, carbide lights, and piping to start a mission that would lead him to numerous farmhouses to install “modern” carbide lanterns and piping. His work was integral to the first indoor lighting systems ever established. After several years, Vearl chose to settle in Salt Lake City and opened a plumbing business from his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he opened his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. The shop was a full-service hardware store with products ranging from washers and dryers to jewelry. He acquired one of the first TVs in Salt Lake City. Though the television only displayed black and white images, it became a sensation in the community and brought in large numbers of people. Over time, Vearl shifted his focus away from selling jewelry and appliances to focus on his expertise—plumbing and heating products. The business is now managed by his grandson.

The business is now under the leadership of Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim spent his childhood in the family business engaging in tasks from trench digging to plumbing new homes, executing repairs, and selling HVAC products. Currently, Jim leads a team of over 40 trained service experts committed to ensuring the best customer service, trustworthy products, and superior craftsmanship. Jim received the ""Circle of Excellence"" award. Recent awards feature ""Best of State"" for the years 2011 through 2015 along with the Angie's List Super Service Award for 2008 through 2015.

Also part of the team is Jim's nephew, Brian Jackson, a fourth-generation member. Brian has been a full-time employee since 1994. He is now the general manager, managing day-to-day operations.
