In 1920, Vearl Manwill prepared his horse and wagon, filled with tools, carbide lights, and a selection of pipes to embark on a journey that took him to various farmhouses to set up “modern” carbide lanterns and plumbing. His work was integral to the first indoor lighting systems ever established. After several years, Vearl chose to settle in Salt Lake City and subsequently opened a plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he established his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His shop was a complete hardware store with products ranging from washers and dryers to jewelry. Vearl bought one of the earliest television sets in Salt Lake City. Even though the TV set featured only black and white visuals, it became a sensation in the community and drew crowds of people. In time, Vearl no longer needed to sell jewelry and appliances to concentrate on what he excelled at—plumbing and heating supplies. Today, the company is run by his grandson.

Currently, the business is led by Jim Manwill, the third generation. Jim grew up immersed in the family business doing everything from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, performing repairs, and selling HVAC equipment. Jim now manages a workforce of more than 40 qualified service technicians committed to ensuring the best customer service, trustworthy products, and superior craftsmanship.
