In 1920, Vearl Manwill set out with his horse and wagon, equipped with tools, carbide lights, and piping to embark on a journey that would lead him to numerous farmhouses to set up “modern” carbide lanterns and plumbing. His installations were part of the first indoor lighting systems ever created. After several years, Vearl chose to settle in Salt Lake City and opened a plumbing business from his garage on 2700 South. In 1943, he established his first showroom on 300 South in Salt Lake City. His establishment was a comprehensive hardware store offering washers, dryers, and even jewelry. He acquired one of the first TVs in Salt Lake City. While the TV only showed black and white pictures, it captured the attention of the town and attracted many visitors. Over time, Vearl shifted his focus away from selling jewelry and appliances to concentrate on what he excelled at—plumbing and heating supplies. The operation is currently overseen by his grandson.

Today, Jim Manwill, the third generation, runs the business. Jim spent his childhood in the family business doing everything from digging trenches to plumbing new homes, performing repairs, and selling HVAC equipment.
