His mission has always been, and continues to be, ""Big enough to get the job done, small enough to show you we care."" Scott Bird spent his early years in the Tri Cities, working on a farm with his father until he reached 19. After high school, he opted to serve a two-year mission for his church in Germany. After returning, he attended Ricks College, now BYUI, where he met his future wife Jody, and they tied the knot in 1983.
