Growing up in the Tri Cities, Scott Bird spent his youth working on a farm alongside his dad until he was 19. Upon graduating, he decided to undertake a two-year mission for his church in Germany. Upon his return, he went to Ricks College, now BYUI, where he met his sweetheart Jody, and they got married in 1983.
