At that time, I didn’t fully appreciate the opportunity and thought the trade was “too dirty,” but over time, my aversion turned into curiosity. I was enthusiastic about learning, and before long, I progressed rapidly as a plumbing technician. Even with my abilities, I found it challenging to grasp the underlying concepts. My uncles showed me how to fix and install, but when confronted with anything atypical, I was entirely bewildered! Nonetheless, I was not content with this limited understanding, so I dedicated myself to learning the science and history of plumbing! After a disagreement with a boss, I opted to go into business for myself, marking the beginning of my journey to fulfill my dreams! From that point on, I’ve been able to share my expertise with my two younger brothers and witness their success too!
During my early years, I frequently heard that I was bright or gifted, and this made me feel I was meant to achieve something beyond myself. Growing up with a single mother, financial struggles were always present. I often dreamed of using my ‘gifted brain’ to solve our problems, yet that day felt like it would never arrive. During my teenage years, I encountered a difficult phase that led me to question my self-worth. I began to feel as if a dark cloud was following me, and I lost focus on my aspirations. Fast forward a few years, my family and I faced eviction from our apartment, and I was working a minimum wage job while delivering pizzas after hours. I considered all the people I felt I had failed, and I took the blame. That experience of feeling backed into a corner with no one to save me inspired me to seek the resources to not only escape but to lay the groundwork for a better tomorrow! That future is what I named Intrepid!
