After the stock market collapse in 2008, I was let go. After several months of reflection, I chose to pursue my plumbing license and start my own business. With no access to a business loan, I concentrated on getting the word out about my plumbing services. I depended on unemployment assistance for two years, courtesy of President Obama. The unemployment funds were not enough to start my operations, so I kept networking and sharing my plans with friends and family. Despite my efforts, progress was slow. In 2011, I noticed that Lowes was looking for installers, so I seized the opportunity. Now, I have established a moderate presence in the plumbing industry, but I am still navigating the challenges. I owe much of my learning to my friend Bill Rucha in Michigan. I am grateful for his assistance and mentorship. I do my best to support him in return. I am often a one-man operation.
