The 2008 financial downturn led to my layoff. Eventually, I resolved to get my plumbing license and initiate the process of launching a small business. Securing a business loan proved impossible, so I focused on spreading the word about my services. I depended on unemployment assistance for two years, courtesy of President Obama. Since the unemployment money was insufficient for launching my business, I continued to hustle and inform friends and family of my goals. Despite my efforts, progress was slow. When I learned that Lowes was hiring installers in 2011, I took action. Now, I have established a moderate presence in the plumbing industry, but I am still navigating the challenges. I owe much of my learning to my friend Bill Rucha in Michigan. I appreciate his support and guidance. I do my best to support him in return. Most of the time, I operate solo.
