The 2008 financial downturn led to my layoff. Months later, I made the decision to obtain my plumbing license and embark on the journey of entrepreneurship. With no access to a business loan, I concentrated on getting the word out about my plumbing services. During this time, I relied on unemployment benefits, thanks to President Obama, for two years. The unemployment funds were not enough to start my operations, so I kept networking and sharing my plans with friends and family. Even with my hard work, I struggled to make headway. I discovered in 2011 that Lowes needed installers, and I jumped at the chance. Today, I have a modest foothold in the plumbing sector, yet I continue to face obstacles. I owe much of my learning to my friend Bill Rucha in Michigan. I appreciate his support and guidance. I make an effort to help him when possible. Most of the time, I operate solo.
