As a third-generation owner of the family business started in 1951 by his grandfather and run for over three decades by his uncle Bob Laughlin, Dan holds great pride in this legacy. Dan graduated from Parkway West High School and embarked on a five-year apprenticeship, sponsored by Plumbers/Pipefitters Local 562. After securing his plumbing licenses in St. Louis City and St. Louis County, he was promoted to Job Foreman, managing O.J. Laughlin's larger plumbing projects. After five years as a Field Foreman, he transitioned into the office, where he trained to become both an Estimator and Project Manager. In 2000, Dan ascended to the role of Vice President, overseeing the majority of commercial, industrial, medical, and healthcare projects. He was solely in charge of all design/build projects. On December 28, 2012, Dan and Bob Laughlin executed a purchase agreement, giving Dan complete ownership of O.J. Laughlin Plumbing Company, Inc.

After WWI, Frank assumed full ownership and operated from his residence on California Street in St. Louis until 1970, when the company moved to its current location in Webster Groves.
