The tale of our company
Arthur W. Crooks, our founder, entered life in 1885 in the city of Goshen, Indiana and relocated to Sturgis, Michigan during his childhood. Even though he was the valedictorian in his class, he was offered a scholarship at Hillsdale College, yet financial issues prevented him from attending.
Arthur took on a teaching role in Colon, Michigan and around 1907 he moved in the city of Battle Creek to embark on his plumbing journey.
During 1909, he took on the role of plumbing inspector for the City of Battle Creek, however returned to his plumbing work in 1911 when he joined Hanchett Plumbing, which he later acquired in the year 1912. At that time, his pay was 12-1/2 cents per hour.
Arthur's children, Helen, Walt, and Warren participated in the plumbing industry. Helen and Warren managed the business from the mid-1950s until March in 1980. Today, the company is owned and operated by Arthur W. Crooks II, his grandson.
