Founded in 1978 by John E. Shekell, the company started as a small heating and air conditioning operation with one van. He subsequently grew the business to include plumbing and electrical services. In the 1980s, John Shekell advanced the company by acquiring the service center of George Koch Sons. This acquisition positioned Shekell as the largest HVAC service provider in the Tri-State area. Transitioning from service and installations, Shekell entered the realm of design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. In 2000, Shekell purchased WSC Associates, a reputable engineering firm based in Evansville, Indiana. This new subsidiary enhanced Shekell's design capabilities, solidifying its presence in the area. In retrospect, John Shekell believes the achievements of J.E. Shekell, Inc. stem from loyal customers, devoted employees, comprehensive training, and a commitment to safety.

An Evansville native, Kevin graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. He began his career at J.E. Shekell Inc. as a residential HVAC installer. During his eight years as a service technician, he achieved an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

After his time as a service technician, he transitioned to a residential HVAC sales role. He then expanded his expertise to include commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimating and project management. He pursued his education at Oakland City University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

Kevin was appointed Vice President of Construction in 2004. In December 2006, he earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.

For 16 years, he has been married and is the proud parent of two children. He served as the president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter from 2004 to 2006. In January 2009, Kevin was appointed President of J.E. Shekell.
