In 1950, Dick Ray, who had recently served as the commanding officer of a Navy LCI, launched his plumbing business. During the war, he attended the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. His family immigrated to Kansas City from England during the gold rush and has remained ever since. His uncles were involved in the construction of the first sewer system in Kansas City.

He initiated his plumbing venture armed with just a pair of pipe wrenches. Lacking a truck, he utilized the family car for his initial service calls. He transported pipes and heavy fittings in a trailer. While raising their three children, his wife handled phone calls at home. She fielded service calls, and Dick Ray took them over the phone to address the jobs. Even in those times, they provided round-the-clock service.

The family that arrived in Kansas City from England and helped lay the first sewer six generations ago is still thriving. In 1941, when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Dick Ray was attending the University of Washington in Seattle. He departed Seattle to enroll in the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, where he graduated as an Ensign.

Following his service in the South Pacific, he returned to New Orleans as the commanding officer of his LCI, where the ship was decommissioned after the war.

In 1949, three years later, Dick Ray returned to Kansas City, his hometown, to start his plumbing business and build a family with his wife, Shirley. Since he couldn't buy a truck, he began his business using the family Chevy for service calls, with an equipment trailer in tow. Dick worked alone, handling all the labor himself. Shirley answered the phone at their home in Merriam while raising their three children. She often took service calls and communicated the work orders to Dick.

Mike Crosby grew up in the Kansas City area graduating from Bonner Springs High School in 1980. Mike and his wife, Sandy were high school sweethearts. Inspired by his father-in-law, a plumber, Mike developed an interest in the trade. Following four years of training with Plumbers Local 8, Mike earned his Journeyman's License and subsequently achieved his Master Plumber's certification.

Mike trained as an apprentice at A.D. Jacobson, specializing in commercial plumbing. He then switched over to residential plumbing and spent many years in the local industry. After spending a year at KU Medical Center as a Maintenance Supervisor, he saw a chance to launch his own business.
