During the war, he attended the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. Starting with only a pair of pipe wrenches, he launched his plumbing business. Since he couldn't afford a truck, he relied on the family car for his first service calls. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, Dick Ray was studying at the University of Washington in Seattle. He left Seattle to join the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, graduating as an Ensign.

After serving in the South Pacific during the war, he returned to New Orleans as the commanding officer of his LCI, where his ship was decommissioned at the war's end.

In 1949, three years later, Dick returned to his hometown of Kansas City, where he started his plumbing business and began a family with his new bride, Shirley. He couldn't afford a truck and began his business using the family Chevy for service calls, towing an equipment trailer. He managed all the work himself, without any helpers. Shirley answered the phone at their home in Merriam while raising their three children. She regularly handled service calls and passed the work orders to Dick.

Even in those early days, they provided 24-hour service. The phone rang by Dick's bedside, and he was always ready to take the call.

Mike Crosby grew up in the Kansas City area graduating from Bonner Springs High School in 1980. Mike and his wife, Sandy were high school sweethearts. Mike's father-in-law, a plumber, sparked his interest in plumbing. After completing four years of education at Plumbers Local 8, Mike received his Journeyman's certification and later obtained his Master Plumber's License.

Mike trained as an apprentice at A.D. Jacobson, specializing in commercial plumbing. Later, he transitioned to residential plumbing and dedicated many years to the local market. After spending a year at KU Medical Center as a Maintenance Supervisor, an opportunity emerged for Mike to start his own company.

In 2003, Mike established Crosby Plumbing Inc., he worked in new home construction as well as service.
