I am Lawrence De Hart, the proud owner of De Hart Plumbing Heating & Cooling. I started this business in 2012 after losing my job at Fort Riley. After months of searching for work without success, I decided to take a bold step and launch my own venture. With no funds, no credit, and a drive to succeed, I turned my Chevy HHR into a work vehicle and hit the ground running! Now, De Hart Plumbing Heating & Cooling is recognized as the leading company in Manhattan and Junction City.

I grew up in the Junction City/Manhattan area. At 31 years old, I cherish my time with my 8-year-old son. Family is everything to me, and I value every moment spent with them. In 1923, Harry Berger founded Standard Plumbing, installing the first coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. With our name recognized, we secured our first major project, installing plumbing in the new Wareham hotel. That’s right, the same Wareham hotel!

During the tough times of the Depression and Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger went to Alaska to search for gold, leaving his wife to oversee operations. When he returned from Alaska, Paul Anderson joined the company as an apprentice plumber in 1941, staying for 16 years before buying it in 1957.

Rick and Dale, Paul’s sons, eventually entered the family business. In 1958, we installed the first central air conditioning unit in the town. Rick bought out Dale Anderson's interest in the business in January 1988.

The company was sold to four employees in 2004. Three of those employees continue to serve on the Board of Directors and supervise the company’s operations.
