With no job prospects after months of searching, I made the decision to start my own business. Armed with little money, no credit, and a determination to succeed, I converted my Chevy HHR into a work vehicle and got started. Harry Berger established Standard Plumbing in 1923, installing our first coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. With our name recognized, we secured our first major project, installing plumbing in the new Wareham hotel. That’s right, the same Wareham hotel!

During the tough times of the Depression and Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger went to Alaska to search for gold, leaving his wife to oversee operations. Upon returning from Alaska, Paul Anderson joined the company in 1941 as an apprentice plumber and worked there for 16 years before acquiring it in 1957.

Later, Paul’s sons, Rick and Dale, joined the family business. In 1958, we installed the first central air conditioning unit in the town. In January 1988, Rick purchased Dale Anderson's portion of the company.

In 2004, four employees took ownership of the company. Three of those employees continue to serve on the Board of Directors and supervise the company’s operations.
