He studied at the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut during the war. His family immigrated to Kansas City from England during the gold rush and has remained ever since. His uncles played a role in laying the first sewer in Kansas City.

He began the plumbing business with just a pair of pipe wrenches. Since he couldn't afford a truck, he relied on the family car for his first service calls. He towed a trailer carrying pipes and heavy fittings. His wife managed phone calls at home while raising their three children. She answered service calls, and Dick Ray followed up on them by phone to handle the work. Even in those times, they provided round-the-clock service.

The family that came from England to Kansas City and assisted in laying the first sewer six generations ago continues to flourish. At the time of the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941, Dick Ray was a student at the University of Washington in Seattle. He left Seattle to join the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, graduating as an Ensign.

Following his service in the South Pacific, he returned to New Orleans as the commanding officer of his LCI, where the ship was decommissioned after the war.

Three years later, in 1949, back in his hometown of Kansas City, Dick started his plumbing business and began a family with his new wife, Shirley. Unable to afford a truck, he started his business using the family Chevy for service calls, pulling an equipment trailer. He managed all the work himself, without any helpers. Shirley managed phone calls at their home in Merriam while also caring for their three kids. She often took service calls and communicated the work orders to Dick.

They offered 24-hour service even back then. The phone rang beside Dick's bed, and he was always ready to respond.

Mike Crosby grew up in the Kansas City area graduating from Bonner Springs High School in 1980. Mike and his wife Sandy met in high school. Mike's father-in-law was a plumber and got Mike interested in the business. After 4 years of schooling through Plumbers Local 8, Mike earned his Journeyman's License and later obtained his Master Plumber's License.

He completed an apprenticeship at A.D. Jacobson focusing on commercial plumbing. He then moved into residential plumbing, gaining extensive experience in the local sector. After spending a year at KU Medical Center as a Maintenance Supervisor, he saw a chance to launch his own business.

In 2003, Mike established Crosby Plumbing Inc., he engaged in both new home construction and service work. Today, Mike remains active in the field, bringing a wealth of experience from kitchen sinks to major sewer treatment facilities.
