During the war, he attended the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. His family immigrated to Kansas City from England during the gold rush and has remained ever since. His uncles played a role in laying the first sewer in Kansas City.

Starting with only a pair of pipe wrenches, he launched his plumbing business. Without a truck, he used the family car for his first service calls. He transported pipes and heavy fittings in a trailer. His wife took care of phone calls at home while also raising their three kids. She fielded service calls, and Dick Ray took them over the phone to address the jobs. Even back then, they provided 24-hour service.

The family that arrived in Kansas City from England and helped lay the first sewer six generations ago is still thriving. In 1941, when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Dick Ray was attending the University of Washington in Seattle. He departed Seattle to enroll in the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, where he graduated as an Ensign.

After serving in the South Pacific during the war, he returned to New Orleans as the commanding officer of his LCI, where his ship was decommissioned at the war's end.

Three years later, in 1949, back in his hometown of Kansas City, Dick started his plumbing business and began a family with his new wife, Shirley. Since he couldn't buy a truck, he began his business using the family Chevy for service calls, with an equipment trailer in tow. Dick took on all the labor by himself, as he had no assistants. Shirley managed phone calls at their home in Merriam while also caring for their three kids. She frequently took service calls and relayed the work orders to Dick.

Mike Crosby grew up in the Kansas City area graduating from Bonner Springs High School in 1980. Mike and his wife Sandy have been together since high school. Inspired by his father-in-law, a plumber, Mike developed an interest in the trade. After 4 years of schooling through Plumbers Local 8, Mike received his Journeyman's certification and later obtained his Master Plumber's License.

Mike trained as an apprentice at A.D. Jacobson, specializing in commercial plumbing. He then switched over to residential plumbing and spent many years in the local industry. After a year working as a Maintenance Supervisor at KU Medical Center, he saw a chance to launch his own business.

In 2003, Mike established Crosby Plumbing Inc., he engaged in both new home construction and service work. Mike continues to work in the field, offering extensive expertise from kitchen plumbing to large-scale sewer treatment plants. Over the years, he has become not only Master Plumber certified but also Med Gas certified.
