Dick Ray was educated at the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut during his military service. The family came to Kansas City from England during the gold rush and has been here ever since. His uncles contributed to the installation of Kansas City's first sewer.

He began the plumbing business with just a pair of pipe wrenches. Without a truck, he used the family car for his first service calls. He towed a trailer carrying pipes and heavy fittings. His wife managed phone calls at home while raising their three children. She fielded service calls, and Dick Ray took them over the phone to address the jobs. Even in those times, they provided round-the-clock service.

The family that came from England to Kansas City and assisted in laying the first sewer six generations ago continues to flourish. In 1941, when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Dick Ray was attending the University of Washington in Seattle. He left Seattle to join the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, graduating as an Ensign.

After a tour in the South Pacific, he returned to New Orleans as the commanding officer of his LCI, where the vessel was decommissioned at the war's conclusion.

Three years later, in 1949, back in his hometown of Kansas City, Dick started his plumbing business and began a family with his new wife, Shirley. He couldn't afford a truck and began his business using the family Chevy for service calls, towing an equipment trailer. Dick worked alone, handling all the labor himself. Shirley managed phone calls at their home in Merriam while also caring for their three kids. She frequently took service calls and relayed the work orders to Dick.

In those early days, they still provided round-the-clock service. The phone rang beside Dick's bed, and he was always ready to respond.

Mike Crosby grew up in the Kansas City area graduating from Bonner Springs High School in 1980. Mike and his wife Sandy met in high school. Mike's father-in-law, a plumber, sparked his interest in plumbing. After 4 years of schooling through Plumbers Local 8, Mike earned his Journeyman's License and later obtained his Master Plumber's License.

He completed an apprenticeship at A.D. Jacobson focusing on commercial plumbing. Later, he transitioned to residential plumbing and dedicated many years to the local market. After spending a year at KU Medical Center as a Maintenance Supervisor, the opportunity arose for Mike to create his own business.

Mike founded Crosby Plumbing Inc. in 2003, he worked in new home construction as well as service. Mike continues to work in the field, offering extensive expertise from kitchen plumbing to large-scale sewer treatment plants. Over the years, he has become not only Master Plumber certified but also Med Gas certified.
