Poor John's Plumbing was established by Daryl Welker in 1987. He aimed to improve his family's living conditions. In 1995, he encountered his wife, and they teamed up in business. The couple ran the company together until 2014. Now, their son and nephew continue the family legacy.

The inception of Bob's Rooter Service was by Bob Trowbridge in the year 2000. Brett, the son of Bob, started working with him in the summer and after school initially and is now a full-time employee at Bob's Rooter. Bob's journey into the construction trades initiated following his parents acquired Land Hardware in Kansas City's historic Northeast neighborhood situated at St John and Hardesty for a decade. The hardware store was sold back in 1988 after Bob's parents decided to retire. Afterward, Bob took on the role of the manager at Evergreen Lawn Care based in Grandview, MO, which was later taken over by Barefoot Lawn Care, prompting Bob to look for new work once again. In 1991, Bob started working as the shop manager with Reddi Services at their former location in Turner, KS. Eventually, Bob transitioned to fieldwork with Reddi Services in the role of service technician and continued with them up until spring 2000 after the passing of both his parents. Bob decided to start his own business and left Reddi Root'r.

My plumbing career began thirty-five years ago at Morgan Plumbing & Heating Company. After obtaining my master’s license, I craved new challenges, which I discovered at the respected Kansas City franchise, Roto Rooter. During my time there, I built a plumbing department from the ground up, gaining expertise in corporate procedures and serving a broad customer base across the Metro area.

As I taught plumbing classes to new recruits at Roto Rooter, I honed my knowledge of various plumbing products. Five years later, inspired by a wish for greater autonomy, I joined forces with Bob Miller to establish Morgan Miller Plumbing in 1997.
