Dick Ray was educated at the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut during his military service. The family came to Kansas City from England during the gold rush and has been here ever since. His uncles contributed to the installation of Kansas City's first sewer.

Starting with only a pair of pipe wrenches, he launched his plumbing business. Without a truck, he used the family car for his first service calls. He transported pipes and heavy fittings in a trailer. While raising their three children, his wife handled phone calls at home. She answered service calls, and Dick Ray followed up on them by phone to handle the work. Even in those times, they provided round-the-clock service.

The family that immigrated from England to Kansas City and contributed to the first sewer installation six generations ago remains strong. In 1941, when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Dick Ray was attending the University of Washington in Seattle. He moved from Seattle to the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, graduating as an Ensign.

After serving in the South Pacific during the war, he returned to New Orleans as the commanding officer of his LCI, where his ship was decommissioned at the war's end.

In 1949, three years later, Dick Ray returned to Kansas City, his hometown, to start his plumbing business and build a family with his wife, Shirley. Since he couldn't buy a truck, he began his business using the family Chevy for service calls, with an equipment trailer in tow. Dick took on all the labor by himself, as he had no assistants. Shirley managed phone calls at their home in Merriam while also caring for their three kids. She regularly handled service calls and passed the work orders to Dick.

Even in those early days, they provided 24-hour service. The phone rang by Dick's bedside, and he was always ready to take the call.

Mike Crosby, raised in the Kansas City area, completed his education at Bonner Springs High School in 1980. Mike and his wife Sandy met in high school. Mike's father-in-law, a plumber, sparked his interest in plumbing. After completing four years of education at Plumbers Local 8, Mike received his Journeyman's certification and went on to receive his Master Plumber's License.

He completed an apprenticeship at A.D. Jacobson focusing on commercial plumbing. He then switched over to residential plumbing and spent many years in the local industry. After a year working as a Maintenance Supervisor at KU Medical Center, he saw a chance to launch his own business.

In 2003, Mike established Crosby Plumbing Inc., he worked in new home construction as well as service.
