Dick Ray started his plumbing company in 1950 after serving as the commanding officer of a Navy LCI. He studied at the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut during the war. The family came to Kansas City from England during the gold rush and has been here ever since. His uncles played a role in laying the first sewer in Kansas City.

He initiated his plumbing venture armed with just a pair of pipe wrenches. Lacking a truck, he utilized the family car for his initial service calls. He transported pipes and heavy fittings in a trailer. His wife managed phone calls at home while raising their three children. She answered service calls, and Dick Ray followed up on them by phone to handle the work. They offered 24-hour service even in those early days.

The family that came from England to Kansas City and assisted in laying the first sewer six generations ago continues to flourish. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, Dick Ray was studying at the University of Washington in Seattle. He departed Seattle to enroll in the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, where he graduated as an Ensign.

Following his service in the South Pacific, he returned to New Orleans as the commanding officer of his LCI, where the ship was decommissioned after the war.

In 1949, three years later, Dick Ray returned to Kansas City, his hometown, to start his plumbing business and build a family with his wife, Shirley. Unable to afford a truck, he started his business using the family Chevy for service calls, pulling an equipment trailer. He managed all the work himself, without any helpers. While raising their three children, Shirley answered the phone at their home in Merriam. She frequently took service calls and relayed the work orders to Dick.

Even in those early days, they provided 24-hour service. The phone rang by Dick's bedside, and he was always ready to take the call.

Mike Crosby, raised in the Kansas City area, completed his education at Bonner Springs High School in 1980. Mike and his wife Sandy have been together since high school. Mike's father-in-law, a plumber, sparked his interest in plumbing. After 4 years of schooling through Plumbers Local 8, Mike received his Journeyman's certification and subsequently achieved his Master Plumber's certification.

Mike trained as an apprentice at A.D. Jacobson, specializing in commercial plumbing. Later, he transitioned to residential plumbing and dedicated many years to the local market. Following a year as a Maintenance Supervisor at KU Medical Center, he saw a chance to launch his own business.

In 2003, Mike established Crosby Plumbing Inc., he engaged in both new home construction and service work. Mike continues to work in the field, offering extensive expertise from kitchen plumbing to large-scale sewer treatment plants. He has earned both Master Plumber and Med Gas certifications over the years.
