Inspired by his father-in-law, a plumber, Mike developed an interest in the trade. Following four years of training with Plumbers Local 8, Mike received his Journeyman's certification and subsequently achieved his Master Plumber's certification.

Mike worked an apprenticeship through A.D. Jacobson working on commercial plumbing. Later, he transitioned to residential plumbing and dedicated many years to the local market. After spending a year at KU Medical Center as a Maintenance Supervisor, the opportunity arose for Mike to create his own business.
