In 1978, John E. Shekell launched the company, starting with just one van focused on heating and air conditioning. The business soon branched out into plumbing and electrical work. In the '80s, John Shekell took a significant step by acquiring the service center from George Koch Sons. This acquisition positioned Shekell as the largest HVAC service provider in the Tri-State area. From service and new installations, Shekell ventured into design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. In 2000, Shekell purchased WSC Associates, a reputable engineering firm based in Evansville, Indiana. This new subsidiary enhanced Shekell's design capabilities, solidifying its presence in the area. In retrospect, John Shekell believes the achievements of J.E. Shekell, Inc. stem from loyal customers, devoted employees, comprehensive training, and a commitment to safety.

An Evansville native, Kevin graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. Kevin started working at J.E. Shekell Inc. as a residential HVAC installer. Following eight years as a service technician, he obtained an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

After serving as a technician, he shifted to residential HVAC sales. Kevin subsequently took on roles as a commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimator and project manager. At Oakland City University, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

Kevin was appointed Vice President of Construction in 2004. In December 2006, he earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.

For 16 years, he has been married and is the proud parent of two children. He served as the president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter from 2004 to 2006. In January 2009, he was named President of J.E. Shekell.

Bayer's Plumbing, Inc. began in 1983 and became incorporated in 1984. Joe, Maria, and Mike Bayer were the founders of the business. It all began in the home of Joe and Maria. Inventory was kept in the garage, and the office was established in the former toy room of their children.

In 1985, Joe and Maria relocated. They kept the office in their home and moved the inventory to a local storage facility. In January 1987, they acquired three additional vans and hired a secretary. The company made a significant move in May 1987 to a 6,000 sq ft space that included a showroom, office, and shop for eight vans.

By 1991, the business had grown substantially and needed a larger facility. The company constructed a new 30,000 sq ft building and moved to 7944 Bell Oaks Dr in Newburgh, its current location.
