John E. Shekell established the company in 1978, beginning with a single van for heating and air conditioning services. The business soon branched out into plumbing and electrical work. In the '80s, John Shekell took a significant step by acquiring the service center from George Koch Sons. This move established Shekell as the leading HVAC service company in the Tri-State region. Transitioning from service and installations, Shekell entered the realm of design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. In 2000, Shekell purchased WSC Associates, a reputable engineering firm based in Evansville, Indiana. This new subsidiary enhanced Shekell's design capabilities, solidifying its presence in the area. In retrospect, John Shekell believes the achievements of J.E. Shekell, Inc. stem from loyal customers, devoted employees, comprehensive training, and a commitment to safety.

An Evansville native, Kevin graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. His journey at J.E. Shekell Inc. began as a residential HVAC installer. After eight years as a service technician, he earned an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

Following his service technician role, he moved into residential HVAC sales. Kevin later added commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimator and project manager to his skill set. At Oakland City University, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

He took on the role of Vice President of Construction in 2004. In December 2006, he earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.

He has been happily married for 16 years and is a father of two. He served as the president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter from 2004 to 2006. In January 2009, Kevin was appointed President of J.E. Shekell.

Bayer's Plumbing, Inc. was established in 1983 and officially incorporated in 1984. Joe, Maria, and Mike Bayer were the founders of the business. The business started in the residence of Joe and Maria. Inventory was kept in the garage, and the office was established in the former toy room of their children.

The year 1985 saw Joe and Maria change their address. While keeping the office at home, they transferred the inventory to a local warehouse. In January 1987, they purchased three more vans and employed a secretary. By May 1987, the company expanded to a 6,000 sq ft showroom, office, and shop that could accommodate eight vans.

By 1991, the business had grown substantially and needed a larger facility. They built a new 30,000 sq ft facility and moved to 7944 Bell Oaks Dr in Newburgh, where they still operate.
