In 1978, John E. Shekell launched the company, starting with just one van focused on heating and air conditioning. He later expanded into plumbing and electrical services. During the 1980s, John Shekell propelled the company forward by purchasing George Koch Sons' service center. With this purchase, Shekell became the foremost HVAC service provider in the Tri-State area. Shekell expanded from service and installations into design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. In 2000, Shekell acquired WSC Associates, a well-respected engineering firm in Evansville, Indiana. The acquisition allowed Shekell to enhance its design capabilities, establishing a strong presence in the region. In retrospect, John Shekell believes the achievements of J.E. Shekell, Inc. stem from loyal customers, devoted employees, comprehensive training, and a commitment to safety.

An Evansville native, Kevin graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. Kevin started working at J.E. Shekell Inc. as a residential HVAC installer. After eight years as a service technician, he earned an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

Following his service technician role, he moved into residential HVAC sales. He then expanded his expertise to include commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimating and project management. He pursued his education at Oakland City University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

In 2004, Kevin became the Vice President of Construction. He completed his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix in December 2006.

Kevin has been married for 16 years and has two children. He served as the president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter from 2004 to 2006. Kevin took on the role of President of J.E. Shekell in January 2009.

Founded in 1983, Bayer's Plumbing, Inc. was incorporated a year later in 1984. The company was launched by Joe and Maria Bayer, along with Joe's brother, Mike. It all began in the home of Joe and Maria. They stored inventory in the garage and set up an office in what used to be the children's playroom.

In 1985, they moved to a new location. While keeping the office at home, they transferred the inventory to a local warehouse. In January 1987, they acquired three additional vans and hired a secretary. In May 1987, the business moved to a 6,000 sq ft facility with a showroom, office, and shop capable of housing eight vans.

By 1991, the company experienced significant growth and outgrew its original shop. A new 30,000 sq ft building was constructed, and the company relocated to 7944 Bell Oaks Dr in Newburgh, where it remains today.
