Following his graduation from Parkway West High School, Dan entered a five-year apprenticeship, supported by Plumbers/Pipefitters Local 562. Once he obtained his plumbing licenses for both St. Louis City and St. Louis County, he advanced to Job Foreman, overseeing larger plumbing projects for O.J. Laughlin. After five years in the role of Field Foreman, he gradually shifted to the office, where he was trained as both an Estimator and Project Manager. In 2000, Dan was promoted to Vice President, taking responsibility for most commercial, industrial, medical, and healthcare projects. He managed all design/build projects independently. On December 28, 2012, Dan and Bob Laughlin executed a purchase agreement, giving Dan complete ownership of O.J. Laughlin Plumbing Company, Inc.

Linek Brothers Plumbing Company was established by Frank and Henry Linek, focusing on repair services and remodeling. After WWI, Frank assumed full ownership and operated from his residence on California Street in St. Louis until 1970, when the company moved to its current location in Webster Groves.
Frank's sons, Joe and Bill, followed in their father's footsteps, broadening the company’s scope to include larger commercial projects while enhancing service and remodeling. Bill's two elder sons, Bill Jr. and Jim, entered the business straight out of high school, while Joe's son, John, joined in 1978.
