E.C. ""Sonny"" Stokes established Stokes Mechanical Contractor, Inc. back in 1963 because of a shortage of reliable plumbing services in the area. Located in the heart of Lake Worth, our office and fabrication shop is still active under the direction of Susan, his daughter.

Stokes developed influence across South Florida, gaining recognition as a leader for building multi-family housing, medical and research buildings, government and educational buildings, and commercial developments. While Stokes expanded in construction, we recognized the demand for a service branch was clear. Starting by servicing the buildings it had constructed, our HVAC and plumbing service division expanded exponentially. Following the establishment of General Plumbing to Stokes in June of 2013, we have established ourselves as a stronger presence across the region.

In the year 1995, Sonny transferred control to his daughter Susan, who had been part of the team since 1983. Initially working as the front desk staff, Susan advanced her career becoming the bookkeeper, lead estimator, Vice President, and currently President/CEO. Susan earned her air conditioning license back in 1989 and her plumbing license in 1992, establishing herself as the only female mechanical contractor in the county. Susan garnered numerous awards for her achievements as a leader of a woman-owned business while also serving actively on the State of Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board from 1997 to 2002.
