Called Universe after heating system failed. They sent a technician who replaced a relay switch. He was here about an hour. Total charge $621 plus tax. The invoice does not break out the cost of parts or labor.

I called Universe and spoke to the customer service manager. She confirmed this is their standard rate for this repair, and was unwilling to reduce the charge.

I think Universe can be relied upon to fix home heating systems, but I cannot honestly recommend them due to what I consider exorbitant pricing.

Refrigerator not working properly. Apt set for 12-3pm. Mike showed up promptly at 12. Reviewed the situation and said since unit was showing no error codes it would be a guessing game. Said Samsung needed to be contacted directly. Warned us that it is difficult to get their servicing. Did not charge us for the visit. Honest and very nice man.

This review was nearly one star, but it was saved by Timothy. We are a long time customer of Universe. 3 years ago Universe replaced our hot water heater with a Bosch continuous hot water system for both heat and hot water. We have had 3 parts replaced on it already. This time it took three visits from Universe to properly diagnose what was wrong. The service department at Bosch was not available on evenings or weekends, so I would not recommend any Bosch appliances for that reason. Universe could not get assistance from them.

After 20 days without hot water, we finally were told by Universe that it could be 2 more months before the part came in that was needed. That is unacceptable for a unit under warranty. It is the obligation of the seller to keep enough stock on hand to handle repairs, and how were we supposed to deal with not having hot water for almost 3 months? There was no solution offered by Universe until we asked to speak with a supervisor. That is when Timothy called back and saved the day by offering to take a part from an intact unit and install it at our house, fixing the stock unit later when the part arrived.

It shouldn't take escalating to a supervisor for someone to come up with a reasonable solution. Universe needs to work on their training. Employees are very nice but to tell someone that they will be without hot water for 3 months is ridiculous. They should have involved a supervisor themselves. However, since the situation was resolved, we will remain a loyal customer.

I contacted Universe Home Services to see if they provide annual service on Navien Gas Condensing Combi Boilers. I've had my unit for 7 years and had the annual service performed by the plumber, who installed the unit. As part of the annual maintenance, my plumber would flush the heat exchanger, which Navien highly recommends to keep the unit running at peak performance. Unfortunantly, my plumber retired and I had to seek out another service provider. I was quoted a price of $411, which I thought was high, but didn't have the time to shop around, So, I hired them. The serviceman arrived on time and serviced the unit and to my surprise was done in only about 45 minutes. Previous servicing took anywhere from 2 to 3 hours to complete. The reason it was so quick was because he never flushed out the unit and when I questioned him, he said they do not perform that task because it is no longer recommended by Navien. I immediately contacted Navien and they assured me that flushing is still highly recommended for my unit. I then spoke with someone at Universe and was told that they could flush out the unit, but at an additional charge. If I knew that the flushing was not included in the annual maintenance charge, I never would have hired them.
Then, after he serviced the unit, I couldn't get any hot water flowing through my radiator pipes. He returned and diagnosed the problem as a faulty 3 way valve which needed to be replaced. If I wanted the work done it would cost me $2800, which I felt was a total ripoff, since the whole unit doesn't cost that much. Fortunately, I was able to hire another plumber to change the part for $458, which I felt was very reasonable. I also found out that the part only cost $58.
I will never use Universe Home Services again and would certainly not recommend them to anyone.
PS: My new plumber told me that he provides the annual maintenance, which includes the flushing of the system, for $250.

Years ago I decided to convert my oil heated system to gas. I was told by a friend that he used Universe and was very satisfied. I always look for references when searching for big ticket items. I inquired, got an estimate. Though not the cheapest, it had the best recommendation.
They made an appointment and told me what I needed to do with my residual oil. On the date they said, they arrived. First crew cut up my inside tank and removed it. The next crew disconnected the boiler and water heater and removed them. Then they brought in the new gas items and connected them they tested yhe system and it worked right away. All this in about 4 hours.
They were excellent. I cannot tell you how satisfied I am with their work. I recommend them whenever anyone asks for services they provide. And I am not easy to please. But they were professional, efficient and very competent. You cannot ask for more from a vendor you use.

I needed some electrical work done and I called Universe Home Services in Wantagh to do the work. I now think I know why they are called ""Universe"" Home Services. Their prices were astronomical. They changed two outdoor GFCI outlets and installed two box covers an the bill came to $516.74. The electrician needed to find out why there was no electricity going to one of the boxes, and that cost an additional $110.00. All in all, with taxes my bill came to $680.80.
If I ever again need any of the services they advertise I will never again explore Universe. There have to be many other places with prices that are more down to Earth.

So a decent looking .. nice guy shows up to do some repairs in my water heater.... $1600 to replace the tank.... They man completes the work .. we go to look at it and it seems that it does look ok. On further notice we see the the man put the part in backwards and at an improper angle. Then when we asked him to fix his mistake , he complained it would take him time to fix his mistake .. and the mistake he made wouldn't really affect the working of the unit. All the while he smiled at us. Lucky my friend is good with computers and looked up what work was being done and what it should look like.... And had the worker repair the shoddy work he knew he had done wrong. You must watch these handymen!!! They will rip you off if they think they can!
