Spencer A.I can't speak more highly of Universal.
First of all, I spent 10 years building houses with my father in Atlanta, and my grandfather ran a plumbing company in Birmingham for 30. I've soldered a good bit of copper, and am quite familiar with how hard it is to find a *good* plumber.
I didn't end up working with Universal Plumbing by choice. I rent a house that has some problems with roots that creep into the sewer line every few months, and my landlord uses them. I always cringe a bit at the thought of dealing with any new subcontractors.... It's such a role of the dice.
Especially when they need to show up at 10pm on a Sunday to hydrojet my sewer line.
Angel is awesome.
Extremely good communicator, well mannered, and thoughtful. We usually deal with him, but everyone they've ever sent has been the same.
More recently, I bought a place nearby and needed to scope the sewer. For some reason I couldn't remember the company name, and used LA Hydrojet for the real estate inspection. They were good, but pricey and not very helpful when I asked for advice and a price break for a second scoping on a sewer permit once we closed escrow. Further, their reception wouldn't let me speak with my technician directly.
I called Universal and they were great. Angel discounted the scoping, and also provided a ton advice for the work we're doing to prep for the new bathroom we're planning to add. His quote for the new plumbing was suuuuper reasonable, and he worked hard to fit me in his busy schedule on a Sunday no less.
Jason S.Universal Plumbing lives up to their 5 Star Yelp Reviews. They arrived quickly, ran a gas pipe through my garage wall cleanly. The installer was focused, and answered all my questions. They even provided all the necessary hardware for the installation. Clean work, and straightforward commitment to their job. I would use them again. Highly recommended.
Jay H.I am a very satisfied customer. Nice job for replacing the leaking water pipe. Nice finishing also.
I found them because they have good Yelp reviews. Called to have them come over and install a bathroom fixture and get estimates for a repipe of our house.
The plumber who came over-- Solomon or Saul, was very nice and very punctual. He couldn't install the fixture-- it was a much bigger project than I had anticipated. No problem. Afterwards, he walked our premises for an estimate on a repipe. So far so good. He told me I'd get the estimate in about 3 days. Saul gets the only star in this review.
A week goes by, no estimate. I call the office. They tell me (paraphrasing here): 'well, Saul doesn't know how our office works, so it's going to be a bit longer. Just a few more days.' Cool, no problem.
A month goes by. No estimate. I call the office again, they say, ""Huh, that's weird. Let me check with the other people here in the office. We'll take care of that for you. If they haven't already sent it, we'll call you to let you know."" I get no call and no email with the estimate.
I call a third time, 3 days later, on a weekend. At this point, it's just a matter of principle and I want to give them every chance I can before I write this one-star Yelp review. I talk to a lady on the phone who said, ""You wanted an estimate to install a bathroom fixture, right?"" NO. WRONG. I explain to her the estimate is for a repipe and the fixture issue was a no-go. She told me that she would call me the next day, Monday, during normal business hours after she talks with others to get to the bottom of this.
That was 5 days ago. She did not call me back. No estimate from the absolute most incompetent office ever.
If this is how you run your office-- how do you get any business? And I gave them more chances than any normal client would. Also, most plumbers can give a rough estimate for a copper repipe on the spot. What's the point in sending your plumbers out to spend a 1/2 hour to an hour of their time on the clock checking out your house if you don't follow up? I'm not giving my business to a company who can't get their sh*t together, I don't care how amazing their plumbers are. And apparently they don't want my business either.
Jacqueline M.Sorry I didn't get a chance to work with them. In order to get an accurate quote on a mainline possible replacement, I'd expect a camera inspection to be part of that. A free quote is offered on Yelp, but when I called, it's actually $200 to run a camera. I already found another company who ran the camera for free.
I like that they answered on the first ring. They are easy to reach at least.
Perfect score yet again. They were prompt, professional and cleared my drains in no time. Super courteous to wear booties and lay blankets on my floors to keep everything clean. Also clear communication on what was happening with my pipes. Nice work.
Christopher S.We had just moved into our new house and couldn't get the pilot light on our water heater to light. It was a Sunday. AND Valentine's day. We thought we were screwed. We found Universal Plumbing Co on Yelp and could not have been happier. They returned our call promptly and had a service guy out in less than two hours. Did I mention it was a Sunday? And Valentines day? These guys were great! -- and totally affordable. It was only $80 bucks!
I called them at around 7pm last night hoping I could get someone to clear out a pretty nasty clog that I had in my kitchen sink. To my surprise I actually got a live person on the phone, and was able to secure an appointment for the very next day. I called a few places and was told I'd have to wait a few days to get someone out to my home, and that's from the companies that I was actually able to get a hold of someone. So that's a plus.
Once they arrived, there was a few minutes of silence where the techs just stared at the pipes, ran the water, and listened. After that, they told me what the charges would be.
Fast forward 2 hours, 4 (maybe 5) snake attempts from 2 different machines and a cut and repaired pipe, my clog was gone. I only mention this part as they did not change the quoted price at all, despite the extra time, effort and parts that it took to clean out my sink.
All the while, they were courteous, respectful, and cleaned up after themselves whenever they had a moment to spare.
I hope I never need to call a plumber again, but if I do, it'll be Universal Plumbing.
Tony N.After receiving a DWP bill that was almost triple what it normally is, I started to look for water leaks on the property. I contacted Universal Plumbing Co. & they arrived quickly and, at my request, brought a ""Leak Detection Specialist"" who had equipment to verify where the leak was coming from - an outside hose faucet that also supplies water to the house. After jackhammering & digging to expose the pipe, the leak was found & it was a steady flow, not a drip. Unfortunately, the entire galvanized steel pipe was rusted - not a surprise because it was 64 years old. All 130 feet of it needed to be replaced and new valves installed. The job involved a 130-foot trench from the house to the city water meter. The technicians were very thoughtful...they let me know exactly when the water needed to be shut off, which was only for a few hours while the connections were made.
When the job was completed, the work area was cleaner than it was before!
Charles B.I needed to have a water heater replaced. I called Universal Plumbing to come out and look at the issue. They were courteous, clean and they seemed knowledgeable. They gave us a quote that sounded quite high so I decided to get a second opinion. The other company I contacted was $500 less for the same work and product and didn't need 48 hours notice in advance of the installation. There was nothing wrong with these guys other than their high prices.
