Let's be honest, paying a bunch of money when you just purchased a house to have your sewer lateral fixed is not the most awesome thing ever. But, it has to be done. And Streamline Plumbing took a situation that I was hemming & hawing about and made it as painless as possible (at a very reasonable price, given the 5+ quotes I received from different companies).

April was an absolute joy to communicate with. Friendly, flexible, and accommodating. I couldn't have asked for more. Greg (and team) did an amazing job on their work. We were barely impacted, and you would never even know that anyone had been there. They were quick, efficient, clean, and professional.

Without hesitation, I would recommend Streamline Plumbing to anyone who needs sewer work (or any plumbing work) done.

Five months after claiming he completed the sewer lateral work that I paid him to do, Greg Martin @ Streamline Plumbing finally did all the work for real. He gets a ""star"" for doing the right thing but loses four stars for his deceptions and delay tactics.

I hired Greg for two reasons - he worked on the property previously for the person who sold me the property and his estimate for the sewer lateral replacement was included in the disclosure package I received at the time of purchase.

After Streamline Plumbing notified me that the work was complete, I paid them two days later. Then a few weeks later a friend of mine came by and noticed that I only had one curbside clean out, even though I had two sewer laterals on the property. At the time, I didn't appreciate how important a clean out can be, but after some research I discovered that there's a very good reason the City of Oakland requires them. There's plenty of info about this issue online.
Greg Martin never notified me at the time his crew was onsite, that he couldn't do all the work in his proposal. And when I contacted him to find out why he didn't install both curbside clean outs, he gave me several lame excuses: he said I didn't need one at the curb; that he couldn't install one at the curb because a gas line was in the way, and my favorite, that he already gave me a ""good deal"" on the price he charged me.

Because of his argumentative tone when we initially spoke on the phone about the issue, I decided to communicate with him via email. In his emails to me, he also insinuated that he obtained a permit for the work. This was untrue. When I went to City Hall, I found out that the permit he opened initially had expired because he never had a final inspection - presumably because he didn't do all the required work to get a final sign off. I discovered this after making several phone calls to an inspector at the City of Oakland Public Works Department. And as for his excuse that the gas line was in the way which prevented him from installing the clean out, this was also untrue. When his crew came back a second time to finally finish the job, they installed the clean out quickly and easily (the video cameras on my building recorded it all) and the clean out passed the city inspection without a problem. There are more details about his other attempts to avoid doing the work in his proposal but I have already wasted too much time on this shady business.

Update: I can assure you there is nothing false in my review. The fact that this biz owner didn't state in his reply what he found false is a pretty clear indication that he is just trying to save face. And to make matters worse Greg Martin continued to lie even his reply. The city inspector was not present while his crew dug around the area for the clean out. Instead the inspector arrived later after the work was completed - which is standard procedure. As for his comment about the permit, all I can say is that pulling a permit is easy but completing the permit process is the important step. Streamline Plumbing didn't obtain a completed permit until after I lodged a complaint with the city inspector and even then it took Streamline Plumbing about 5 months to do the work necessary for the signed/completed permit. And here's my tip of the day when working with contractors, do a ""walk through"" before making the final payment. In other words, visually inspect in and around the area of the property that was worked on, and verify that EVERYTHING in the proposal was completed. In the case of a sewer lateral replacement, this may require getting dirty as you may have to access the crawl space under the house. But trust me, it's worth the effort.

With a property dating back to 1914, we knew that the sewer lateral would have to be replaced. Greg was different from the other contractors. He sent his camera down, explained what it saw, and laid out the method of work. His respect for the client as well as his expertise made it easy to choose him. And he's so affable! The same can be said of April, who runs the office so well. Greg's workers are like him and April: they know their jobs and do them very well. We were concerned about disruption to the neighbors, but Streamline made it as convenient as possible.

Streamline replaced my sewer line within Castro Valley grant program. Greg did the estimate, he is very knowledgeable and nice guy. He kept up the communication with me all the way through the project. The office lady, April, was a pure pleasure to talk to. Anyway, the job is done and the concrete patching to my driveway is almost invisible. I would recommend Streamline anytime.

Working with Streamline Pluming from the time of inception of me wanting to replace the lateral in my home until the work is done as a positive and hassle-free experience. Their price is very competitive, their conduct was professional and they deliver what they promise in writing. In addition their work complied with all the local requirements whether it is a license, passing inspection or cleaning the worksite afterwards.
I highly recommend Streamline and I would hire them again if I ever need another lateral to be replaced.

Thank you Greg, April and Crew for a job well done.

HUGE thanks to Greg and his crew for doing a great job bringing the sewer lateral up to code for my new house in Oakland. The crew was friendly and efficient. The next day I was having trouble with my kitchen sink and Greg even came out on a Sunday to ensure that his crew did all the work correctly. Indeed they had. The solution? Drano. Thanks, Greg, for a job extremely well done. Would recommend Streamline Plumbing in a heartbeat!

I have been working with Streamline for over 2 years. As a realtor, part of my job is to connect my clients with the best service providers in the industry for many different needs. With Streamline, I can say they are the gold standard. With over 20+ clients referred to them, not a single one has ever been unhappy. There are a lot of sewer companies out there to choose from, but only 1 sewer company that is the best in the business. Streamline is the best!

Reasonable quote and inspection of sewer lateral, but would recommend obtaining other inspections from other companies (they are usually free).
Streamline recommended replacement of the sewer lateral, whereas others thought the lateral was in good enough condition to just be pressure tested (cheaper by thousands of dollars and don't require replacement). I went with another company and they were right and my lateral didn't need to be replaced.

I researched this project for a long time, I knew I needed to replace my sewer later for 20 years because of the rats digging up through my lawn. I know that sounds bad but my whole neighborhood is like that. With the drought over and my yard looking particularly bad I knew that I had to first address this sewer problem before any landscaping ideas.
On the side of my house runs one sewer line which comes to the front and cuts under my driveway to connect to the sewer line coming down from the middle of my house then the joined lines continue under the sidewalk to the main sewer line on the other side. This was not going to be easy. Maybe that's why the other half dozen plumbers I ran into while working on newly sold houses on my street never bothered to even quote me in the years following up to now. They even came out, measured and videoed my line, and never quoted me.
I used yelp to research trenchless plumbing and carefully read the reviews. I was worried because it seemed more than not YEMV. Your Experience May Vary. There was a lot of companies with 5 stars that had a bunch of 1 stars mixed in. I read one review which mentioned Streamline and Yelped them. They seemed as good as it was going to get so I added them to my ask for quote list. I called a bunch of companies up to ask for quotes and one my hopeful candidates stated that he doesn't work the area. I asked him for a recommendation and he said ""Greg at Streamline"" no one else.
I called April at Streamline Plumbing who made an appointment with me to meet Greg at my house because I wanted to fill him in on everything I knew. He didn't think this would be a difficult job, gave me a very reasonable quote and even though I was in no rush at all, could do the job early the following week in one day. I committed and had to call and cancel the quotes from the other companies.
The USA was done the next day, no parking signs posted the day before the work and 8 guys in 3 trucks showed up at 8. I stayed the whole time because I was so curious about how this was done, also I love hard work, I can watch it all day. Greg was wrong, it was a hard job, but I guess not for him. The guys hand dug and tried to disturb as little as possible even though I told them it wasn't necessary, I was going to redo the yard anyway. They didn't take me seriously until i hacked away branches that looked like that were in the way. The digging looked like the hard part. The pipe replacement looked simple that's because when you're good, you make the job look easy.
The city inspection passed without incident, even he was on time. The EBMUD inspector checked the pressure gauge, glance over the connections and gave a nod. I asked him what he thought and he said ""You've got the best crew here, I never worry about these guys.""
I have to say I feel the same way.
