E.C. ""Sonny"" Stokes started Stokes Mechanical over six decades ago because of the lack of reliable plumbing services in the area. Based in Lake Worth, FL, our headquarters and workshop is still active under the leadership of his daughter Susan.

We grew our footprint in South Florida, establishing itself as a leader for building residential complexes, healthcare and research facilities, government facilities, and commercial developments. While Stokes increased our operations in building, we recognized the demand for a dedicated service division emerged. Starting by servicing the buildings it had constructed, our service department developed rapidly. Following the launch of General Plumbing as a division of Stokes, we have established ourselves as a stronger presence in South Florida.

During 1995, Sonny transferred control to Susan, his daughter, who had officially worked since 1983. Starting out as the receptionist, Susan progressed through the ranks to bookkeeper, lead estimator, VP, and now is the President and CEO. She earned a state license for air conditioning in 1989 as well as a plumbing license two years later, making her the first the only female mechanical contractor in Palm Beach County. She garnered many accolades for her success as a female-owned business leader and serving actively as a member of the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board for five years from 1997 to 2002.
