Sonny Stokes started Stokes Mechanical in 1963 because of the lack of skilled plumbing contractors in the area. Located in Lake Worth, FL, our office and fabrication shop continues to operate led by the guidance of his daughter Susan.

Stokes developed our footprint across South Florida, gaining recognition as a leader in the construction of multi-family housing, healthcare facilities, public and educational structures, and commercial developments. While Stokes increased our operations in construction, the necessity of a dedicated service division emerged. Starting with the maintenance of our own constructions, our HVAC and plumbing service division developed exponentially. With the establishment of the General Plumbing branch to Stokes in June of 2013, we are now a more significant player in South Florida.

In 1995, Sonny passed the leadership to Susan, his daughter, who had been with the company since the early 80s. Starting out as the receptionist, Susan progressed through the ranks to bookkeeper, chief estimator, VP, and now President/CEO. Susan received a state license for air conditioning in 1989 as well as the plumbing license in 1992, making her the first the sole female mechanical contractor in Palm Beach County. Susan garnered many accolades for her achievements as a leader of a woman-owned business while also serving actively on the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board from 1997 to 2002.
