regarding Swissvale location... grossly overcharged on part. Called ahead of service appt and got an estimate for labor and part. based on that info, we moved forward with Stahl vs another local competitor. Came home to see the invoice and the part was approx $120 more than quoted. Called back next morning to dispute (phone was passed around their office without any professional transition) and was told they didn't have specific part info when initially quoting. (Then why/how do you provide an estimate?!) Their 'solution' was to have the tech come back uninstall the part, and we could proceed with another vendor. Customer service was poor at best. Will never use again.
Cynthia S.Pros and Cons.
Pros-did the job well that I hired them for.
Cons-rude telephone women, had to call twice to get on the schedule and both women were rude & acted annoyed that we needed help, when he was working and I went upstairs he put a Stahl sticker on our furnace overtop of the service company we already use. (I ripped it off and threw it away) will never call them again.
Don S.We've used them 3 times. Hot water tank good job. Quick work and straight up pricing. Next time out thermostat wire got a nick in it and furnace shut down. The guy came out and didn't replace the wire but just replaced the fuse it blew. Which was fine but for $90 hour rate that took him 10 minutes I would have rather replaced the wire.
This last time I got a new wifi thermostat and needed an upgraded wire. The guy was nice and everything but soooo slow. When he replaced the thermostat he didn't use the old holes to attach the new plate and instead left a drywall anchor exposed in our wall beside the thermostat. The holes lined up perfectly with the old one ( both Honeywell ). Didn't use a drill either to make new holes I think he punched holes with a screw driver because there was a bunch of debris on the floor I had to clean up. It took him almost 2 hours to do all this ( milking it.. ) everything was just done sloppy. He didn't put a screw back in the furnace door. Didn't fully tighten the other screws. He spent an hour zip tying the new wire which I told him I would do. Sorry but I'm not paying $90 an hour to zip tie. Probably would use them next time I need a new hot water tank but they won't be around My furnace or AC again
Kelly B.They STINK!!!!!! They waisted my whole day promising someone would be at my house with the right parts. Then they arrive and they don't have the part even though I told 3 people the brand!
Shannin Z.Just tried calling to see about getting a plumber to look at a couple busted pipes. It was a Saturday afternoon, but their website says they pride themselves on someone always answering the phone 24 hours day. The woman I spoke to immediately asked me if it was an emergency when I told her it wasn't strictly an emergency she told me to call back on Monday morning. End of call. In my mind it wasn't an emergency because I'd turned the water off and therefore water was no longer filling my garage. I guess I should have been more clear, but based on her phone etiquette, I probably didn't want to talk to her anymore anyway.
Diana P.These people are rude and disrespectful. I attempted to call for a service and ask questions and was talked down to like a 5 year old (possibly because I'm female) and then hung up on because I was asking too much. Things like this make me want to go to school to learn plumbing so I don't have to rely on such incompetence
I had an emergency plumbing situation at my house. A pipe had burst in my basement and water was leaking everywhere.
I called Stahl at 11:30 at night when I saw they did 24/7 plumbing. I spoke to an actual person who took my information and they had a plumber call me back within 15 minutes.
Stahl came out that night fixed everything. They were honest and priced fairly.
I was worried they might try to price gouge me because it was an overnight call, but they did not. I would recommend Stahl to anyone looking for a fair price for emergency work.
Laura W.My husband and I have used Stahl a few times for plumbing repairs on our house and thought they were pretty decent. Recently our central air conditioner stopped turning on, so we called them to check it out.
The repairman came and messed around with our digital thermostat, tightening wires & changing batteries, and kind of snarkily blamed us for the AC not turning on, as he thought our thermostat was hooked up incorrectly. We found this odd, as it had never been a problem in the three years we've had it, but shrugged it off.
He told me he got the AC running, as he claimed it wasn't working due to not being hooked up correctly to the thermostat (weird?) then gave me the expected sales pitch to call them back when it's warmer out (it was 45 degrees out that day) to give it a full routine check up.
It's been pretty cold out during the past month, so we hadn't tried to turn it on again until the other day. Sure enough, my husband tried to turn the AC on and it wouldn't turn on at all, just the fan part. We think the repairman somehow confused the AC with the fan, when he told me he fixed the thermostat and got it working again.
I called Stahl and told them what happened and the woman who answers the phone got really defensive and started yelling at me! I was very nice and calm when explaining the situation, so there was no need for this. Besides the whole issue with not doing the job properly and then not admitting to it, we don't do business with companies who are rude to us. They no longer will have our business for plumbing or HVAC.
They said they cannot guarantee their work. Opened up a clogged stink pipe...5 days later, wanted more money to open up same drain. Asked for the main number to talk to the supervisor. Was told, ""C'mon man, I can't give you the supervisors number."" ""If you want to get the number, go read the side of my truck."" Tom left the driveway and proceeded the wrong way down our one-way street. Never again.
If you are getting a whole house HVAC system and hot water heater like me then they are so helpful...gee could it be the 9.000 about to go into their pocket.
However when you have a problem, and you probably will..good luck. After only 5 months both the furnace ( which was measured wrong and NOT what I was contraced to get) leaked and the new copper piping from the water heater also started leaking. I called and was told my appt would be between 12-4 the next day. At 4:30 I called and was told they would not be able to make it and i was on their list for a call to let me know...Nice, so that whole time, I was waiting not even a heads up. The next day someone was sent, it took him a few hours (not sure why) to fix the problem. Here we are a week later and the hot water heater is leaking in a new area. Thank goodness there is a drain near it. So I called and was told someone would be here by 11am the next morning and I would get a call. At 1:00 I called only to find out there was NO RECORD of my call the day before...WHAT? I coud not believe I was being screwed AGAIN. So, another day waiting, if I was not a stay at home Mom I would be out 2 days pay. We will se if they shoe up tomorrow and if they fix it. I would warn people to look someplace else for your plumbing and heating needs. I did look them up on the Better Business website...rating F
