Kevin C. and his family have been meeting the heating and air conditioning needs of Northern California homeowners since 1972. Kevin completed his studies at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo in 1994. Following his graduation, he came back to work in his family's air conditioning and heating company. Following 25 years, his parents transferred ownership of the business to a billion-dollar corporation in Dallas, TX. He spent six years with that corporation before choosing to exit the corporate world and create a family-oriented, client-focused business similar to his parents' in 1972. This led him to start Service Champions in 2002. Guided by these values, Kevin's company has grown to include more than 200 team members and has been in operation for 18 years. Today, Service Champions caters to homeowners across the San Francisco Bay Area (East Bay), South Bay, and Sacramento regions.

Kevin makes his home in Pleasanton, CA, alongside his wife and three children.

This review is specifically for their MVP monthly subscription. They kept emphasizing that one of the perks is if my HVAC unit was not functioning correctly, they will be at my place w/in 24 hrs to fix it. Kept emphasizing that it's great to have when it's super hot. We subscribed since I work nights in healthcare (need to sleep during the day) and also have young kids at home. Well today it's 102F in San Ramon. I knew my unit was not working and called them at 845 am. Was placed on hold for 10 mins. Earliest they could come out is 11am-2pm the next day, 26-29 hrs later--not what they promised! Also, I've mentioned to them on their routine maintenance checks that I feel my AC does not get to desired low temp I set on really hot days. I kept getting same response that they don't see anything wrong for two years now. They recommended that w/ the subscription, I can call when it happens and would be be able to be checked out within 24 hrs as we are MVP subscribers and get priority. I was just curious how fast I could get other companies to come out, turns out a couple companies gave me same time frame as them-- without having to pay a monthly subscription! I'm beginning to think the whole ""priority"" system is just a sales gimmick. May want to reconsider if you were planning on purchasing it.

Eric A. came out today to do our annual HVAC health check and he did a fantastic job! I learned more about my system than I ever did with prior techs. Everything was checked and tuned as needed and our system is working great! Just in time for triple digit weather this weekend. I highly recommend Service Champions if you live in the tri-Valley.

Revised...talked to a GM about my issues. Initially, she sounded really nice, a common business practice until I told her what my issues were. I had pictures of the problem areas in my house regarding my AC and sent it to her. She said she didn't see any issues. Mind you, she is a GM. I dont know if GMs are supposed to know anything about field work. All I know is that my HVAC person said that the ""tubes"" for the exhaust were pinched, tubes that SC laid out. How could one professional see issues and another not? I don't get it. Either way, SC did not come through, and I am going with the independent contractor.

Brandon was knowledgeable, courteous, and he explained clearly what was done. He was training someone but it did not slow down the work, which I feel was thorough. Thanks!

A great job once again and I really appreciate your team's spirit.
We chose your company and it has been well worth it!

I get lots of snail mail from them so that is why I have 2 stars. Never used them. Just too much mail. Made a complaint and they said they could take me off their mailing list. I kinda of thought I did this before. So putting my reminder here that I called today on 5/20/19. They said they would remove me in 4-6 weeks. If I get another letter I'll update this review.

We won a bid at a charity auction for a new system. I knew the auction system was going to be inadequate for our needs but was willing to pay for the upgrades.

Sticker shock!!!!! My upgrades totaled more that I paid for a complete Trane system in NY 10 years ago. Bay Area pricing is ridiculous even compared to LA pricing (close to double of LA). I will say in fairness, it was overall similar to another quote we received.

The ""Comfort Consultant"" came out on Friday and did an extensive look at our situation and we had system with upgrades installed on Monday.

I looked at the estimate on Tuesday and looked at the differences of what was quoted and what was done. I called the ""Comfort Consultant "" and then emailed him my list with pics. He called me back after his meeting with Service Manager and addressed 3 of my 6 issues. A fourth issue he tried to say was wash price wise (but not to my satisfaction, because he was comparing cost on one and list price on another ).

One of my complaints not addressed was a thermostat that was included (500 list price) was not installed.

I sent him an email saying I need to speak to managers to get this resolved. On Wednesday still have not heard from a manager.

I am willing to change my rating and update my review. I expect top notch service if I am paying such a premium for the product and service. I really need this to be handled so I can put my dryer back in the utility room to get laundry done.

An update- Installation Manager Anthony called and addressed 5 out of my 6 concerns. The one he couldn't address was a credit for the cheaper filtration that was installed. The GM would have to do that and she was in a meeting
Said he wasn't sure if he could get a crew out Thursday but he would call. We got a text that a crew was scheduled for Friday. He called at 10:30 to tell me it would have to be pushed off until Monday.

Way to make an already upset customer even more upset.

We set up two separate appointments - the first one they had to cancel (which was a weekend) and the second one they again cancelled on us (which I took off early from work for). The second time it was because they had written down our needs incorrectly. After two cancelations, I would have expected them to make it right immediately and send a new person so as to avoid another rescheduling. This was only for an estimate! We decided not to pursue using this company because if they can't show up to estimate (twice in a row), god knows how they'll perform with the actual work!

The company had a special promotion on tuning up your furnace with a 21 point inspection and inspecting your heating ducts for $88. I called and made an appt with Service Champions and they assigned Rich Sanders to do the service call. Very punctual and will contact you before arriving to update you his status. Upon arrival, wore booties before entering the house and went straight to work checking and cleaning the heater furnace. Very pleasant technician made the whole service call comfortable. Although he wasn't able to do all the diagnostic checks and cleaning of the furnace as stated in their promotion advertisement, but it's no fault of his since my gas heater furnace is quite old, but functional. Afterwards, he went up to the attic to inspect my heating ducts.

The tune-up special is not a gimmick and they will perform all the safety check, but for older furnaces, they will find inefficient parts/areas that will advise you to consider replacing with newer efficient furnaces and/or heating ducts that show signs of leaking air on the connections seams.

Rich is a stand up guy and he won't up-sell you anything you don't need. But he did advise me to set an appt. with someone from their company to do an estimate for a new gas furnace and/or heating ducts on another day. Before he leaves, he will call someone in the office to set up an estimate for an estimate to come to your house to estimate a new furnace and heating ducts.

Also be informed that they will present to you an opportunity to join their value customer membership that offers you a discount on repairs and and/or parts and a free annual safety check on your furnace and some other benefits all for approx. $10 a month, with the first month free as a trail period. I guess the company trains all their field technicians to offer this membership to all their house call visits to their customers.

This is the extent of my experience with Service Champions. If you have an older furnace that hasn't been cleaned or tuned-up for a long time, maybe you should consider a tune-up and/or safety check, as long as you don't mind the pitch of joining their valuable service membership afterwards.
