I have relied on John Sallustio and his team for the past two years, since we moved from a new build condo with minimal maintenance into our 1899 townhouse with all kinds of weird plumbing and furnace issues. The man is an absolute treasure -- kind, reliable, reasonably priced, and usually available on short notice (and when he's not, he's absolutely clear and honest about when he can come).
He has also very kindly fixed my DIY plumbing screw ups with minimal judgment (but a bit of laughter, on both sides), and spent time teaching me about maintenance and how the mechanical systems in my own home work, which has been very helpful. John and his company are truly old school Brooklyn, in the best possible sense.
steve c.Family-owned and in the neighborhood as a mainstay for years, Sallustio & Son is an important part of the community. You see his trucks driving around the neighborhood during periods of extreme cold, shuttling around and helping the community with all the old boilers and fixing a wide range of hot water systems that are nearly impossible to repair. John Sallustio's family name is on these trucks, and that means something.
It's hard to find an honest and affordable plumber and heating repairman. John is not only that, but he has instilled the values that he has to his helpful, knowledgeable and gracious workers. He installed a new heating system in my unit years ago, and has provided periodic service since then, always done with great care and professionalism. And he and his workers remember everything...even if years pass, they somehow remember all the nuances of your setup and what makes your situation unique.
Just in the same way you wouldn't hire just any doctor, you have to be careful about trusting someone to fix some of the most delicate and complicated parts of your home. I appreciate what they've done for me (I have heat!), and it's no surprise that when he comes to visit me that others who see him in the hallway already know him and are glad to see him. I'm skeptical of any of the less than stellar reviews--this is a tough job, and this isn't like performing magic, which some people might expect. He's better at his job than most of us will ever be, definitely including me.
Anna H.I found myself in need of a plumber to fix a broken flush-o-meter on my toilet that had completely stopped working. I called and left several messages the evening before to the company I usually call with no response. So, I had to look for an alternative. The building I live in used Sallustio & Son Fuel Oil & Plumbing for years, so I decided to give the a try. They were very professional, fixed my toilet very quickly and at a lower price than I expected. Thank you so very much! I will be calling again.
Nelson F.leaking washing machine drain pipe turned out worse with corroding pipes. The guys arrived and replaced the bad sections in about 2 hours. Nice work, very professional, would def use again.
I claim seniority, I""ve known them since 1983, when it was Vito Sallustio (John is the son). Everything the others say is true and then some. Vito came and fixed a boiler gushing water at midnight on Christmas Eve (whittled a chunk of 2x4 and pounded it into the hole in the boiler -- stopped the water which was flooding the basement with boiling water, got the furnace turned back on. It held for 2 years and then we mutually decided to get a new boiler.) Repair and replace pipes. Trustworthy beyond belief. I think their prices are fair, but I don't know, because I wouldn't dream of having anyone else -- so what's to compare with???
Elyse B.I have used John's services for over 20 years and it has always been excellent!!
He and his workers are knowledgable, friendly, and reliable. The quality of their work is very professional and John stands behind his work.
I hired him to replace a large heating and hot water system in the co-op I used to live in. I hired him to replace my mom's oil system with a gas one . And when my boiler ( in my private house )died during a tragic time in my family, and right after super storm Sandy, his men replaced it within 2 days of my frantic phone call.
HE'S IS THE BEST!!!!
I used Sallustio plumbing a couple of years ago to have my commercial boiler inspected because my regular guy was too busy. They did a decent job. However, the next year, after getting my regular guy back in to do the inspection, I get a bill out the blue from Sallustio. So I call them up and say, ""Why are you sending me a bill for work you didn't do?."" They apologize and say it was a big mistake. I decide to never use Sallustio ever again.
So what do I get in the mail today? Yes, a bill for 272.19 for a boiler inspection that I didn't ask for and they didn't do. I don't think they made a mistake, they are just trying to rip people off.
holy crap what a terrible service these guys provide. Totally unreliable and total liars. I spoke with the plumber yesterday for a non-emergency. He said he would come by this morning but could not say what time and would call before he came. I said ok and have been home all morning. So i finally call and they try to tell me that they were just here and ringing my bell. Um, no. my bell is loud enough to hear from outside. Also he didnt call. So, i totally get if you cant say what time, but then if you say i'm going to call first then you call first. Finally he got some huge attitude with me as if I had been the one just caught in a lie not doing the thing I had said i was going to do. Also i dont know if they remember but they are a service. I am going to be sure to warn everyone away from these assholes. Totally unprofessional, unreliable and just all around shitty junior operation.
Surprisingly rude. I described the problems we were having--leaks, slow drains, water heater pilot light constantly going out--and requested a general estimate, if possible, before proceeding with the work. He told me that (1) they do bigger jobs than this; (2) it was impossible to give an estimate without seeing the problem firsthand; (3) it wasn't cost effective to see the problem firsthand without our committing to have them fix it; and (4) if he were to give an estimate, he might as well just gather some fishing poles and going fishing for the day. Then he demanded to know if I was an existing customer of his (i.e., trying to trick him into quoting a different price than what had been paid).
I understand if the job is too small for this company, and/or that it's difficult to provide an estimate. However, I don't need to be patronized and insulted in response to a polite request for help.
Cross this one off your list. Several times.
One of the rudest and most unprofessional people I have ever spoken with. He acted like I was putting him out and didn't have time for my concern. He raised his voice many times when I just asked him a simple inquiry. Will never contact again.
Fortunately, I contacted Barone R Plumbing (another plumber close by) and the guy was a complete gentleman. The experience was like night and day.
