I'm starting with this Yelp review and will file complaint with Better Business Bureau next. Roto-Rooter has a very deceptive practice. I called them around 7 pm January 11 regarding a clogged sink. I asked numerous times how much do you charge and the person over the phone stated the technician would discuss. Once he got there he stated he was going to charge $350 to unclog sink. I declined. Then he told me it would be $135 for the after hour visit. I told hi I had no idea they charge that much just to come out after hours. Few days later I spoke with supervisor named Carlos asking him to listen to the call to hear me ask numerous times about pricing. He did research and left me a voicemail 1/23/20 stating I would receive a refund of $135. I've called numerous times and have received different reasons. The latest being the credit to my card didn't happen so they are mailing me a check. Just called again and apparently Carlos no longer works for company and the person I just spoke with named ""Mike"" stated they don't refund even though I have a voicemail message from past employee Carlos stating a refund would be applied. This is very deceptive and very misleading especially since you advertise free estimates. I'm still waiting for my refund so I can put this behind me.

Horrible service. Rep suggested service he knew wouldn't work and after 2 mins declared it wouldn't work, but charged hundreds of dollars for. Management was of no help. Tried to use a different location, because of the bad reviews, it service area franchise rules. Horrible, horrible.

My hot water heater all of a sudden stopped working. I called Roto Rooter and explained what I knew to be true. We had followed the instructions on how to refire the pilot light and checked all the connections.
When Nico from Roto Rooter showed up he was very nice and even explained to me that he didn't know why they sent him to our call. He doesn't know anything about water heaters. He did what he could, tried to light the pilot light, checked all the connections....... (we had already done that) then he called his supervisor and asked what to do, he found the number to the hot water manufacturer and had a part sent directly to us and charged me $150 for his time. Explained that if I got the part and called them back out, they would charge me $300.
The part that was sent, did not work, so I called American ..... something or other and explained what was happening, they in turn sent out another part and we waited 2 days, put it on and it still doesn't work.
How does Roto Rooter qualify to charge me $150 and send out an unqualified (sorry Nico) plumber and still no hot water.
I will NEVER call this company again. Sounds like they have a flat fee $300 for any service they do. What a joke!~!~!

Very frustrating to deal with. Have had them come out about four or so times now every time the window that was given was broken by atleast an hour or two. Multiple times was told the technician would be there shortly with nothing in response for hours on end just to be told I'd get a call back with nothing. Paid only 500$ for a broken drainage pipe then told it would not leak which it ended up leaking. I get it things happen and was even told the technician was called to an emergency but why not tell the customer at the very least. Extremely frustrated waisting entire days for someone to show up and always be late especially when told they would be here hours ago. At times had to call back to be told wasn't even scheduled and would be scheduled for another time or later in the day. Very dis functional on notifications and scheduling. Won't give 1 star because the technician seemed knowledgeable and helpful with the actual work and came back again to deal with the leak. Nothing on the technician but the scheduling and time management by the company seems awful.

I needed Roto-Rooter services they were polite, courteous and professional. The technician was also very good he explained the process slowly and carefully. I would definitely use their service again. The only reason I'm giving a rating of 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because it's super expensive 285 dollars per hour. The technician fixed my problem in about 15 minutes that was a charge of 285 dollars.

This is probably the worst place to do business and to work!! They are always late to appointments or forget to book you.
The owner never takes care of business is to busy playing around with his ""office manager"" who knows nothing about the job!!! BIG FAT ZERO

My boyfriend and I just moved into a new home and found our sink was not draining properly. It eventually progressed into a full blockage and nothing was draining. After being blown off by a different plumbing company, we called Roto-Rooter and they were able to send a technician out to us within a couple hours. Stephen arrived at our home and was incredibly kind, efficient, and knowledgeable. He was able to diagnose and fix the issue quickly, and explained the situation to our landlord over the phone. We were very impressed by his professionalism and hope he gets recognition for a job well done.

Last month, this company charged me nearly $500 for a service that in previous years had cost approximately $250 on three or four occasions. That's roughly a doubling in price from a year before. By the same company! I learned that this Roto-Rooter had undergone a change of ownership, which is the only variable I can think of that explained the price gouging. I subsequently checked with the local plumbing contractor in Calistoga and was told that ""$250 is about right"" and that's about what the Calistoga plumbing company would charge.
Four notes: 1) The service was a septic cleaning that involved toilet removal. 2) I was told about the price on arrival but needed to have the problem fixed that day. 3) The technician was fine, my objection is price. 4) I called Roto Rooter only because there would have been a wait for the Calistoga company to perform the service.
Protect your pocketbook and avoid this company!

Terrible experience from start to finish, the tech, when he arrived was the only good thing I have to say about them, he was very polite, and to the point. I called in for Emergency drain clog, I was told I would have to wait till the next day..... what's the point of 24hr emergency service if it's not actually 24hr. I was told a tech would arrive the next day between 2-4pm. At 2:30 I got a call from a service manager to inform me that my call had got pushed from 3-5 to 6-8, so first off that wasn't my original time slot but ok, but now my emergency service call is apparently not important to them because I kept getting pushed back, not to mention I had to call a second time to find out what was going on, and they had no idea who I was.... the tech finally arrived and worked until 9:30pm only to tell me he could not fix our problem, unless he stayed later which they would start to charge me the hourly rate, and he could not give me an estimated amount of time it would take him. So i clearly wasn't going to pay someone to do something that could not give me at least an estimated time frame, I thanked him for his time and sent him on his way. I can handle the fact that they simply couldn't help us, but to say you can't help and still charge someone $335?! I live in Colorado, I was out here to visit my Father, and it's terrible to see business conducted in such a poor manner. In Colorado if someone can't provide the service you are paying for, they don't charge you. That's called good business, Roto-Rooter's business model sucks and so does their customer service. Enjoy getting robbed by Roto-Rooter

I called Roto Rooter at noon and they were at our house within 3 hours! One bathroom house with toilet not working. Chris did a great job and took care of the problem. He was courteous and very respectful of our house and cleaned up afterwards! I would be happy to have Chris take care of any of our plumbing needs.
