We had your basic stuffed toiled so we called these guys. The good news is that they responded quickly. The bad news is that it cost $247 for the repair guy to use an $89 auger for less than 10 mins. There are brain surgeons that are not making this hourly rate. I just bought my own auger (aka snake) at San Lorenzo Hardware for $16. Apparently the big plumbing shops set prices based on some ""plumbing book"", however the smaller independent shops are more likely to deliver their service at a sane price.

Had a smelly shower drain, so Brian and his asst. came out and listened to my concerns, diagnosed the problem, and replaced the pea trap that was cracked under the house. They were professional and knowledgeable. Also found some unwanted hair balls and eliminated them as well! Greatt job....

Toilet plugged, backing up water in tub and the sewer pipe outside smells. Josh from Roto Rooter was my hero! This is my vacation home and back in January, the exact same thing happened. That plumber came out and cleaned out the back sewer pipe and told me i needed a new toilet in which i went out and got one. He left a lot of residual on the concrete. Today Josh came out and cleaned the pipe and used a shop vac to suck up the gunk. He needed a hose to do the front pipe. I dont own a hose so Josh said after i get a hose, he will return to finish the job. When he finished today, he left the area very clean. He even bleached to kill the smell.
If i need a plumber again, i will call Roto Rooter and make sure Josh is the guy.
He is also very professional and well mannered. Thank you Josh!

Thanks so much to Jessica (dispatch) and Corbin (technician) who came to the rescue at my rental house to help fix the toilet. Corbin was very helpful and respectful, and explained some options to help save me some money. I will definitely call him back again for future plumbing needs!

Had Corbin, R come out today and fix a pin hole leak we had in our copper lines, He was super super nice friendly helped solve and fix the problem.
Corbin understood that issues and the access was not easy very wet, and under our home, however he just got into his job and fix us super fast, I would recommend give him 5 stars.

I am pleased with my service at Roto-Rooter. The technician came out within hours of our call. Ask for Elbert because he did a great job. He's professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. He was able to find the problem and fix it right away. Because of Elbert I am a life time customer of Roto-Rooter.

I had a severe problem with the pipe that connects the main to my house. There was no way I could fix this properly on my own. And it was late Sunday afternoon. Called Roto Rooter and Steven, their lead plumber, took the call and was at my place in 30 mins. He did an outstanding job of fixing the problem, and I have water back into my house. His repair is holding up fantastically. I will call these guys again in a heartbeat for my future plumbing needs.

Roto-rooter did a great job diagnosing and fixing my main line clog. They worked quickly and were respectful of my home (i.e. covering their boots and avoiding walking through the house unless necessary. The price was a little high for a basic main line snaking I thought. It was worth it in this case to have the problem resolved quickly and on a Saturday.

I have been using this roto-rooter office in santa cruz over the last four years to clear a sewer line that periodically gets blocked by roots that intrude through the pipe.
Pro: they are always available and will get you somebody within the day to fix your problem. If after hours you have to pay extra ( above $90) which I find acceptable given the inconvenience. The service is good, they fixed the problem every time, around once a year.
Con: Every year I was charged the same amount for running the snake and camera, about $280. Last time (1/2017) they charged me $120 more, plus added a $8 for gas (!?). When I asked for clarifications, they argued that they had not charged me for running the camera all the other previous three times they did the job, and in fact the camera is a $380 charge but now they were giving me the 'special' of $380 for both snake and camera. In short, without warning, for running the camera (a 5 minute job) they were charging me $120 more. I expected to pay the same price I payed before for the same job.
I am not a happy customer now, and will cal other plumber if need to in the future

In drought stricken areas like Santa Cruz we are implored to minimize water usage. One way to achieve this is by collecting bath water in buckets and using that to flush the toilet. One can get away with refilling the tank by opening the ceramic top a few inches and refilling water there if the bath water is really clean. The other way, assuming there's no pooty-poos in the toilet, is to toss the bucket of water straight into the bowl. Amazingly this will flush the toilet just like pulling the handle!
I'd been doing my duty as a conservationist and opting for bath water over tank water as often as possible. That was, until the day my plumbing stopped working completely. In a move that was both graceful and elegant I tossed a bucket of water into the bowl but had not noticed that there was a bathtub drain stopper in the bucket as the water went in. The stopper was small enough to go down the drain but it was not small enough to continue downhill out to the waste treatment plant.
Even with the stopper down the drain the toilet was still flushing; it was not flushing with the pressure we're used to. Was this just my plumbing or had I just jammed the downstairs neighbors plumbing too? Could the stopper be jamming the whole condominium? What if the entire west side of Santa Cruz was now unable to flush their toilets? Great move, Athonia. Bravo.
As always I popped onto Foursquare and then Yelp! to see who had good reviews. Roto-rooter had offices nearby and I recognized the name from advertising. I called them immediately. Their people deployed bringing all manner of snaking gizmos out that they could use to attack the pipes. It didn't take long before high pressure flushing commenced again. The problem was solved with both Efficiency and professionalism. This was just another one of those days I was thankful to have help from the local businesses in my community.
Thank you, roto-rooter, for getting me out of this tricky situation.
