My heat quit working Friday night. I called Roths..I was told that there was a 89 diagnostic fee..anything that needed repair was additional at a flat rate.
Guys came out yesterday..told me the capacitor needed replacing and that it would be an additional 369.
I said that I couldn't afford that..I was offered 20 percent off.
I said no..after they left I unplugged the part and found it on Amazon for 8.25 (yes that's 8 dollars..)
I called around was able to buy one for 40..,put it on myself..took a couple of minutes.
I understand a biz needs to make a profit, but I feel this is taking advantage of unsuspeting people..;(

This place gives me a lingering angry feeling for years. Sometimes you are stuck with a choice of companies for HOA purposes. There were two choices Roth and another.
The other place quoted about $160 per hour. Crazy huh! sounds expensive. Roth said they charge per job/item done rather than hourly. That sounds way more reasonable. Does it?
Two guys from Roth came, spent about 20 minutes on the spot, and changed a fuse? (it was $20 on amazon) and charged about $400 for that repair!!!
wow, would have paid half the price to go hourly even at the insane price of $160 per hour.
Nothing better than feeling ripped off. O, questioned them on the charged and they ignored offering an explanation.
DO NOT RECOMMEND-
feel so ripped off I have been angry about it for years

Just wanted to give a shout out to Talesha Wood, service technician. I had scheduled annual maintenance for our heater today and she was the most professional, customer service oriented person I've dealt with in a long time. Explained everything as she did it and had the most positive personality. If I ran a business, I would hire her in a heartbeat! Great work Talesha, you represent Roth very well!

We had a terrible experience with Roth. We bought a home that had a heating system installed by Roth in 2011. As part of the house sale inspection and negotiations, we asked that the system be serviced and cleaned which Roth did in October. They cleaned and checked everything and said the system was in good working order. Two weeks later after we move in, we hear a constant ticking sound from the furnace which we are told is normal shortly after the filter is cleaned and would go away. Except it didn't and when they came out to check it, they told me that the special ionizing filters that cost $1,900 would need to be replaced. They should have known that during the maintenance call they performed 2 weeks prior and should have made that recommendation then.

Even worse, I smelled a gas leak which was found to be coming from the water heater which was part of the ""complete heat system"" that heated the furnace. The gas company shut off our heat and hot water. Roth came back out and told me it was likely a broken gasket in the water heater. The water heater was inspected during the maintenance call 2 weeks prior and a broken gasket or seal was not observed or recorded. Instead they wrote that the water heater was in good working order. They refused to pay for any repairs, stating that the broken gasket wasn't caused by their service work 2 weeks prior. True, but why did their technician fail to notice and investigate a gas leak? How could he have signed off that the system was in good working order when in fact it was putting our family at risk of carbon monoxide poisining?

The receptionist who answered one of my calls even said that the water heater would likely need to be replaced since it was old, even though it is only 8 years old. What kind of business installs a heat system that needs to be replaced in less than 10 years? And why did their technician who did the maintenace service not record that it needs replacement?

They appear to be unqualified, dishonest, and don't stand behind their products or services. I can tell you that when we do have to replace this furnace and water heater, I will NOT be using Roth.

Be warned these guys are HUGELY expensive..$600(flat rate any and all) to seat a toilet....so they aren't really charging by the job..In our case very easy..you end up paying for the messy difficult jobs. We are going to go ahead and put all the sink and toilet valves on ourselves...and seat the toilet too. This company is too rich for our tight pockets!! Some people have kicked them out of their homes after getting the quote for jobs.
And yes $89 for initial inspection and bid. We thought they were just going to come do the work..We just have a lot on our plates right now so wanted a plumber to come do the work..more on our plate but at least we know how to do this stuff..thank god!!

We had a serviceman named Stanley come to our home in Spring 2019 to assess a broken bathtub faucet. He diagnosed a broken cartridge and quoted $700 to replace it, citing it as a ""high end"" Grohe cartridge. We were able to find the cartridge on Amazon for $75 and replace it ourselves. I emailed him asking for an explanation for the high quote and he never wrote back to me.

Watch out if you choose to use Roth especially if you sign up for one of their maintenance plans. After the one year anniversary of the scheduled equipment checks. I made it very clear to the technician that our home was for sale I did not need to renew. I thought we were good at that, He did not say I needed to call in to cancel. 4months later after a hectic move and life I see a charge on my credit card. My bad for not noticing sooner but come on! Apparently it works just like gym memberships and that is where they make their money. I found a much better service for my new home. Thank goodness.

I don't know how these guys are in business. Scheduled a home visit twice. Two no shows. Got an email from someone with an outrageous quote (wrong service quoted) without even seeing my house. Good luck in the real world fellas. Stay away from this company. Something is clearly wrong.

very unethical company. Needed someone to look at a part on the water heater and when they showed up he wouldn't look at the part. We paid $89 on a guy to come out and quote for over priced parts/service that we specifically said we didn't want!!! (Which was not what was discussed on the phone for the apt!! Waste of money and time!)
Absolutely do not recommend using this company couldn't believe the poor customer service and moral work ethic :/

I needed an exhaust flue installed on a new Westinghouse water heater.
The heater is in our garage. The requirement was to run a 3"" dia schedule 40 PVC pipe vertically for 7', 90° bend then out the garage for about 15'. I sent photos of the water heater, and the garage. Roth rescheduled the visit twice, courteously giving notice.
The technician who came round was friendly and polite, but took 90 minutes to give the estimate, mainly due to being on the phone on other business most of the time, as he was ""on call"". He agreed that there was no new information on seeing the task on site that had not been captured in my e-mails and photos.
The cost of the estimate was $89, as advised in advance. The total quote was $900, based on it taking about 90 minutes, plus perhaps $100 for materials. This would imply a labor rate of about $474/hour, assuming the $89 was included in the $900.
I decided to do the job myself. I bought the materials from George Morlan plumbing supply on Pacific avenue. $52 including all adhesives. straps to hold the pipe to the wall and having the pipe cut to the correct lengths. About 45 minutes to do the job. This implies a Roth labor rate of about $1,000/hour, ignoring the fact that a professional should get the job done faster, and get a better price on the materials. I did have to buy a 89mm dia hole cutter from Home Depot for about $50.
Roth has replied to a similar review that it is necessary to pay fair wages, provide benefits and support overheads. But this is also true of medical practitioners and lawyers, who in my experience are nothing like so expensive.
