Reliable Heating & Air, Plumbing and Electrical

This is the 3rd review I wrote about Reliable and so far none of them has showed up on their website. It seems that only good reviews show up through Yelp! Two of my toilets plugged up and I could not get them free so since Reliable had installed a water heater for me I called them expecting good service and a good price. When the Plumber showed up on 11/10/14 he ran through several price structures and not being a plumber they did not mean much to me. It took them less than an hour to unplug the toilets by each plumber using a plunger on each toilet. I was charged a $90 service fee and $328 plumbing to clear main line stoppage. I did receive a military discount but still the price seemed very excessive and I will not use Reliable again and have started telling my friends my story and all of them were shocked at the cost. I tried to call the father/son owner but was told they did not handle the plumbing and was referred to the plumbing head John Crumb and was told he would call me back which he never did. I called back and was told John was busy and they referred me to Chris McKinney who obviously had no authority and basically said that was the price and there was nothing they could do. So I ended up paying $368 for less than an hour's service. Guess I was in the wrong career field!! Carey Cole

We had used Reliable Heating and Air for a few years for our home so we were very disappointed when our air conditioner stopped working in the middle of the summer and we were given a five day away appointment. Not very reliable. Because my husband has health issues we were forced to call someone else who came within 24 hours. A few months later someone from Reliable called to ask when we would like our furnace check up for the winter, I told we would no longer be using their company. Instead of asking why to see if there was a problem and possibly win our patronage back she said something rude and hung up on me. Too bad because we were very happy with them up until then.

Randy and Andrew were great! While replacing our AC unit, they went above and beyond to replace extra soiled ducts at no extra charge! They were swift, courteous, and professional, and I would recommend them to anyone.

Cannot say enough good things about my experience. If you need a dependable, honest electrical contractor...CALL RELIABLE! In fact I used them once in the past when I had A/C trouble and had a great experience. On a SATURDAY I wake up to find a limb had taken down my power line. Torn it off the house, electrical box hanging. Called a couple """"Trust Dale"""" companies...neither answered the phone. Called """"Pat Murphy"""" after the ringing endorsements from the HomeFixIt Show on WSB...they wanted $459 JUST TO LOOK AT IT and ballparked it at $2,000.Told me they'd come out and give me a price. If I took the price they'd apply the $459 to the price...if I didn't like it, I'd have to pay them $459. I was floored and furious. Cobb EMC recommended Wade Electric. They wanted $250 to come out and said it would be about $800-$1600. Finally called Reliable and was told $89 to come out ON A SATURDAY to have a look and they ballparked it at $600-$1200 They came out when they said they'd come out and the electrician, Jake A., was an absolute angel...on-time, knowledgeable, professional. And he really went the extra mile...especially when he filled a hole left where the eyebolts were ripped from the side of my house. I could have hugged him when he gave the price and had the work done in like an hour so I could get Cobb EMC back out to restore power. I can't imagine calling anyone else with my electrical (or plumbing) needs.

Pros - Quality work with good suggestions for our home on how to maximize recessed lighting. Trustworthy employees which we allowed to enter our home at their convenience. They cleaned and locked the house daily. Cons - The job took much longer than we were quoted. The original quote was 5 days. The reality was 4 weeks at a higher price than anticipated. My partner and I hired them to completely rewire our 1961 home. The original lead electrician resigned the first week of work which we suspect resulted in the delays. Jake and Andrew were the employees that took over and they were awesome! Despite the delays and higher price, the end result was worth it. We would use Reliable again and would request these specific employees for our future projects !

A/C unit outside was making a really loud noise so we called Reliable. It was on a Friday so they put us on standby and assured us if they couldn't come that day, then they'd be out Saturday. Saturday morning, a very nice serviceman came out and told us he could fix it for just under $2000 or we could replace our whole outside unit for $3300. We decided to replace it, given it would have a 10 year warranty. The soonest they could replace it would be Monday. We were so tired of sweating in our 86* and Monday seemed like forever away. Thankfully the nice technician offered to bring us window units to get us to Monday. They made a special trip back to our house on Saturday to install 3 window units! Monday's replacement of the unit was quick, clean and they did a great job. Doesn't get much better than that!

I gave them 1 extra star for coming out on a Saturday. Technician comes to my home. I asked to have the system checked. He says it needs coolant, adds some, and leaves. I go on vacation. When I come back, the a/c unit outside is not running. I call and they say they can have someone out 'next week'. They say """"well, it's that time of the year"""". So I ask """"are they all emergencies where they have NO a/c?"""" Fed up, I hung up and called someone else, who came the next day and found the original Technician overfilled the unit with coolant, and that was what was causing the outside unit to not come on outside. So, to sum up, technician overfills unit so it doesn't work, and then they were going to make us wait until the following week even thought the a/c unit wasn't working at all!

Reliable got my AC working again relatively fast so I can't be too disappointed. However, I'm finding it hard to get past the egregious overcharging for parts. They charged me $180 for a transformer you can buy new for $20. After the install I casually mentioned this when I was finally told the price. """"Well, you want me to go take it out?"""" :-/

Reliable used to be my go-to HVAC company. However they have grown a lot recently and quality and reliability have suffered greatly. I have had two very bad experiences with them in the past few months. In once case, they came out a second time unnecessarily with the sole intent to charge me the $400 leak detection fee, even though I knew exactly where the leak was. I was eventually refunded $200. On another occasion, I found it impossible to get an estimate for an HVAC job even though I paid $120 diagnostic fee. They kept calling to install and I kept telling them that I had never received an estimate. I left email and fax numbers, but never got a response. I spoke with manager James Gipson at length. He agreed I deserved an estimate. He said I would have it that day. Then nothing. I left messages several more time and got no response. Reliable has gone down the tubes. It is not the same company it was just a few years ago. My advice is to ignore any review over 6 months old. It does not apply. I have taken my business elsewhere.
