I called to have a bathroom faucet that I had purchased installed. There was a $49.95 ""dispatch fee"" that they supposedly credit if the work is done. I figured that if he was going to be here anyway I also mentioned to the scheduler that I wanted him to check out my toilet which was taking a long time to fill. Mike, a very pleasant ""technician"" arrived within the promised window installed the faucet and changed the ""fill valve"" ($20.00 for a complete replacement kit at Home Depot). The total time spent including writing up an extensively worded invoice was no more than 1 1/2 hours. The amount due total came to $412.72 which included the removal of the ""dispatch fee"" and a $20.00 ""Senior Discount"". The pre-tax total was $379.95. THAT'S $253.30 PER HOUR! Mike was great, the job was well done but if you have a child that you were hoping would become a Doctor, a Dentist or a Lawyer, save the tuition and send them to work for Ray The Plumber!
Ray the Plumber is very expensive ... their fee just to come out for a visit is expensive, then their per hour charges are high. I guess it's because of all those advertisements they put on TV -- that has got to be expensive.
Also, they seem to use sub-par, low-end equipment for repairs. My repairman said he didn't have anything else ""on the truck"" other than the cheap, low-end Delta faucet he used to repair my bathroom faucet. He said if I wanted to run over to Home Depot to buy one, I would have to pay him (per hour) while he waited on me. I figured that would have cost me another hour's worth of repairs, so I decided to go for what he had ""on the truck."" This repair lasted only 1.5 years, then the new faucet started leaking. I have to smash the handle down really hard, towards the right-side, just to get the water to keep from dripping.
On the good side, I should add that they make ""emergency calls"" after hours and on weekends. It's hard to find a plumber who will ""always be there for you."" Also, they did initially fix the leaky faucet ... at least for a while.
do ""not"" use ray the plumber worst experience i've ever had dealing with a company! don't know how ray was voted best plumber on long island 2 yrs in a row!!!! his plumbers botched up a simple plumbing job, his supervisor was unknowledgable, they don't return phone calls when there is a problem just look at other reviewers to verify that and the owner doesn't care about his customers and lies! would give zero stars if possible! stay away!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am normally wary of flashy outfits with extensive advertising, but when I had a situation and I didnt have time to seek out a local guy, I called them in the morning and they came the same day. They have a bunch of plumbers that cover Suffolk , and the plumbers they sent to my house were quite professional and even nice. They do charge 50 bucks just to come (but not if you have them do the work) but I have found that this is actually pretty standard for a lot of plumbing services. 50 bucks not too bad in fact, and they tell you on the phone before you book an appt, so if that practice offends you then you don't have to commit. The cost in most plumbing work is labor (expensive) even though the parts are usually not expensive at all. If you are really offended by that situation, learn the skills needed for plumbing yourself and you will save a ton of $$$, and maybe even find a new career (once you know how, plumbing actually isnt that hard). I don't think its really a 5 star service (I'd give 3.5) but I feel that the other reviews here dont paint a proper picture of this service and wanted to do something to help tip the balance. It seems that Ray (a real person) takes care to hire good guys and takes an interest in how they represent him. If the work falls apart in a week or even up to a year, then He'll repair it free, I'm hoping not to have to test that out....
Stay Tuned for a big Review on ""Ray the Plumber"". Once I receive word back from the Better Business Bureau, I will update reviews as either a ""Happy Ending"" or ""Nightmare on Elm Street""

Omar A.I had a big job at a small home. Ray showed up himself, took measurements, talked me through my options, and gave me a fair price on the estimate. He's not the cheapest, but I think he's worth the price. I keep his magnet on the fridge - he'll be my first call if I need immediate service done correctly.
definetely agree with the others here... dispatcher did nothing but try and sell me a new ejector pump for $1000, was there 2 seconds and advised me pump was completely dead. After he left I did some research online, took the job upon myself, took out ejector pump, unjammed it and brand new, saved myself $1000 minus the $43 dispatcher fee, pure robbery
H S.Ray the Plumber; Service is unreliable Here's my recent experiences to obtain an estimate for installation of an on demand hot water system and for running a Natural gas line to a new fireplace.
Dec 10, 2012- full day off wasted after scheduled estimate for 12:00-4:00 resulted in no one showing up as promised and with no call to me that the tech would be late, one finally arrived unexpectedly at 6:45. He was unable to do the estimate due to his inexperience After he spoke with Ray directly, I was told that an estimate would be scheduled for Friday Dec 14, 2012 with Ray himself to complete the estimate.
Celled on Wednesday Dec 12, 2012 after not receiving a call to arrange Dec 14 estimate as promised and was told Ray is schedule for my estimate between 10:00-2:00 on Dec 14, 2012
Dec 14- estimate scheduled between 10:00-02:00. I called at 2:30 after Ray did not show and was advised Ray could not come due to his wife's surgery and that no one else would be coming. I was advised Mike not available to come nor was anyone else that was capable available There was no call to me prior to 2:30 to advise me of Rays unavailability Another day off wasted. Estimate rescheduled for Dec 20, 2012
Dec 20, 2012 estimate scheduled between 11:00-2:00 I received a voice mail at 9:52 that Mike could come now. I returned the call at 10:02 and stated I was home but was advised that Mike was already sent to an emergency. I advised that i would be home from 11:00-2:00 as originally scheduled. Subsequently, Mike, nor anyone else for that matter showed, nor did I receive a call from the office about same I called at 5:14 and left a message with the answering service. I spoke with Tina at 5:30 and received no explanation for the no show. Another day off wasted.
Dion R.Just a quick update on the Ray the Plumber Saga. I expected a call from the Office Manager, Renee, but it did not come today. When I called Ray The Plumber to Find out what happened, I was told Renee had to leave early today. Interesting....
I'm now told that there will be a foreman in the office tomorrow (Tuesday) that will give me a call. Lets see if that actually happens.
Augie R.I just had the dispatcher from Ray the Plumber leave my house and boy am I disappointed by their level of service. They really seem to have contempt for their customers. They dispatched someone to my house to take a look at my dishwasher, which I explained over the phone was not draining completely. When the dispatcher arrived, he opened the dishwasher, said they don't work on appliances, but told me I would still need to pay the dispatch fee! I asked them how they could charge me for a dispatch if they don't work on appliances. I understand that travel time and gasoline was spent getting to my house, but clearly, someone on the phone could have told me they don't work on appliances! Clearly the operator could have surmised that they would be unable to help me! I was requesting assistance specifically because my dishwasher wouldn't drain! The fact that they sent an plumber when it should have been clear to them that they could not help me is dishonest at best, criminally negligent at worst.
When I tried to reach out to their service line, they told me to put the dispatcher back on the line. At the end of their conversation, he still demanded the $43 dispatch fee. The home office didn't even have the courtesy to speak with me.
It seems pretty darn ridiculous to do long-term damage to your brand and to mock the intelligence of your customers for $43, but there you have it. Consider me chastened.
What a low-rate business.
